On June 10, information from the People's Committee of Nghe An province said that Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung signed Decision No. 1657/QD-BVHTTDL on including the brocade weaving craft of the Thai people in Nghe An in the List of national intangible cultural heritage, belonging to the category of traditional handicrafts.
Brocade weaving has long been an indispensable part of the cultural and spiritual life of the Thai community living in Western Nghe An. From rudimentary looms, with skillful hands and folk memories, Thai women have woven fabrics with elaborate patterns, containing history, customs and the national soul.

This heritage not only demonstrates the skillful craftsmanship but also reflects the worldview , beliefs and aesthetics of the Thai people – with geometric patterns, symbols of mountains, forests, animals and harmony with nature. Many brocade products are used in wedding ceremonies, housewarmings, ancestor worship and daily activities.
According to the Decision, People's Committees at all levels where heritage is located are responsible for state management according to the provisions of the Law on Cultural Heritage, ensuring the promotion and preservation of the value of this traditional craft in contemporary life.
The recognition of brocade weaving as a national intangible cultural heritage is not only a worthy recognition of the cultural preservation efforts of the Thai ethnic group, but also an opportunity to develop community tourism, create livelihoods and enhance the status of indigenous culture in the context of integration.
