Towards the Hanoi Lotus Festival held from July 12 to 16, on July 4, the People's Committee of Tay Ho District coordinated with the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to organize an online exchange with the theme "Promoting the value of Hanoi Lotus in today's life".
At the meeting, the delegates who were experts in culture, agriculture, and tourism all affirmed the value of lotus in cultural, spiritual, and economic life, especially in the West Lake area. The lotus has contributed to creating a fragrant lotus-scented tea that has been honored as “The best tea in the world”.
Assessing the importance of the lotus symbol in the cultural and spiritual life of Vietnamese people, Associate Professor Bui Hoai Son, Standing Member of the National Assembly's Committee on Culture and Education, shared that in our country, the lotus has many meanings and is completely worthy of being the national flower.

Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Dinh Hoa said: With the skillful hands of artisans and businessmen, lotus has become the main ingredient to make many essential products serving the daily life of Vietnamese people, including many OCOP products that are favored by consumers; recognized and highly appreciated by international friends.
In order to make full use of the advantages and expand the lotus growing area in the area, in recent years, the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has directed the Agricultural Extension Center to deploy demonstration agricultural extension models to introduce new, high-quality lotus varieties that adapt to climate change into production.
The model has been deployed in the districts of Me Linh, My Duc, Thach That and Tay Ho district with a total area of nearly 30 hectares.
Particularly in Tay Ho district, units have implemented the restoration of the lotus species with an area of 7 hectares at Dau Dong and Thuy Su lakes (Quang An ward)...
Thanks to the attention of all levels and sectors, lotus plants are now strongly reviving in the ponds and lakes around West Lake.
Vice Chairman of Tay Ho District People's Committee, Head of West Lake Management Board Nguyen Thanh Tinh said that there are 18 lakes and ponds around West Lake. In the near future, Tay Ho District will cover all of these lakes and ponds with lotus plants.
Along with the upcoming Hanoi Lotus Festival, Tay Ho District will coordinate with the Hanoi Department of Tourism to exploit new values from lotus, build new tours and routes to develop tourism products associated with the sustainable tourism development project in the district.
At the online exchange program with the theme "Promoting the value of Hanoi Lotus in today's life", Tay Ho District Party Secretary Le Thi Thu Hang emphasized that the district will promote and honor the beauty and cultural values of Thang Long - Hanoi, of the land of Tay Ho and the lotus flower - symbolizing the spirit and identity of the Vietnamese soul; at the same time, promote and stimulate tourism, arouse the potential for developing OCOP products of localities; attract tourists to visit Tay Ho, Hanoi, contributing to realizing the goal of building Tay Ho district into the cultural and tourism center of the capital.
