In recent years, abdominoplasty has become increasingly popular, especially among men, according to cosmetic surgeon Giselle Prado-Wright, co-owner of Exert BodySculpt in Florida, USA.
"Today, more and more men are interested in cosmetic surgery such as hair transplants, penis augmentation with fillers, or abdominal contouring," she told Business Insider.
According to the doctor, most of the customers who come for abdominal contouring are between the ages of 30 and 50. At this age, belly fat begins to accumulate, so men also increase their need to improve their body contour. Especially during and after the pandemic, this type of surgery has also exploded.
Dr. Prado-Wright said that this is a time when people spend a lot of time on social media, thus becoming obsessed with appearance in general and six-pack abs in particular.
According to the doctor, abdominoplasty is one of the most complicated methods. Unlike conventional liposuction, this method also affects the nerve areas around the abdominal muscles, causing more pain.
Post-operative patients will also need to wear a compression garment for 6 weeks and stop exercising for 2-3 weeks. However, to maintain the results, they will need to eat a healthy diet and exercise regularly.
Typically, the cost of an abdominoplasty is not cheap, around $7,000-$9,000. In big cities, this number can be up to $13,000.
However, this doctor said, not everyone is suitable for abdominal surgery. The ideal group is those who regularly exercise and have only a thin layer of fat under the skin. For customers with thicker fat layers, the doctor will shape the fat to make it look more muscular.
For those who do not exercise regularly and whose weight fluctuates frequently, this method may not be suitable. Fat injections to create abdominal muscles may look awkward if this group does not maintain a stable weight.
