At the Vietnamese box office, from July 18, F1 was also brought back to IMAX theaters because it seemed that Superman did not fill the number of IMAX screenings as expected. During the past week, the film was successively taken over by Wooden Fish and Smurfs to take the number 1 position at the Vietnamese box office for the day.
General situation in the markets
According to Box Office Vietnam, at noon on July 18, after nearly a week of showing, Superman had a revenue of 17.9 billion VND in Vietnam.
According to The Numbers , the film's weekend revenue in the US was 166 million USD, while revenue in other countries was 95 million USD, making a total revenue of 261 million USD.
Superman's Final Trailer
In the US, the film's revenue is considered high, the third best opening of the year after the two biggest hits of the year, A Minecraft Movie and Lilo & Stitch (which just hit the billion-dollar mark). But to make a profit, Superman needs to maintain stable revenue in the following weeks and reach a total of at least 500 - 600 million USD worldwide.
Mr. Nguyen Khanh Duong, founder of the box office statistics unit Box Office Vietnam, commented to Tuoi Tre Online : "Actually, if we monitor the international box office, Superman this time also does not have good revenue globally.
Except for North America, Superman 's revenue in other markets is moderate. At the Chinese box office, Superman only ranked fourth with low revenue.
Therefore, I think Superman 's low revenue in Vietnam is a common situation worldwide , and the film is not as famous in the international market as the distributor expected."
Superman Can't Save Hollywood Movies in Vietnam
Before Superman hit theaters, a Hollywood blockbuster also hit theaters in Vietnam. That was Jurassic World: Rebirth. The film's global revenue is 564 million USD, while its revenue in Vietnam is only 40 billion VND.
Brad Pitt's F1 is a hit, with a global revenue of 399 million USD, but in Vietnam it only earned 12 billion VND. A better case is How to Train Your Dragon, with a global revenue of 570 million USD, and a revenue in Vietnam of 66 billion VND.

Or Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning had a global revenue of 584 million USD, in Vietnam it earned nearly 47 billion VND.
"In the past 1-2 years, Hollywood movies have hardly created an explosion at the Vietnamese box office. We may have a shift in movie audiences, as Western movie lovers gradually prioritize waiting for movies to be released on online platforms.
Meanwhile, the majority of people who go to the cinema love Vietnamese products that carry the spirit of Vietnamese culture," Mr. Khanh Duong commented.
Therefore, the phenomenon of a "small" Vietnamese film like the short film Wooden Fish unexpectedly surpassing Superman may continue to happen in the near future.
