Pilots of Air Force Regiments 916, 917, 930 (belonging to Air Force Divisions 371, 370, 372 - Air Defense - Air Force) are diligently practicing, ready for the mission of performing helicopter flights to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the successful August Revolution and National Day September 2 (A80).
In the flight formation serving National Day September 2, the air force will mobilize many types of helicopters, including Mi-8, Mi-17, Mi-171 and Mi-172, contributing to creating a spectacular and impressive aerial performance.
Chief of Engineering of Air Force Regiment 917 (Air Force Division 370) Tran Xuan Nhu emphasized: "Ensuring flight safety is always a key factor, especially strictly complying with all contents in the 4 stages of flight preparation, because this is a factor that directly affects the quality of each flight."
The hot weather in the North greatly affects the operation of electronic equipment on aircraft. The temperature in the equipment compartments is often higher than the outside environment, easily causing a decrease in reliability and operating efficiency.
To overcome this, the unit has selected highly qualified technical staff, regularly trained and reviewed items that are prone to damage due to climate impacts. At the same time, it has increased inspection, industrial cleaning and maintenance of electronic systems to ensure that all equipment is always in the best operating condition, ready for the flight mission during the A80 ceremony.
The flight plan for the A80 ceremony is expected to mobilize about 50 pilots, a combination of experience and youth. The oldest pilot is 52 years old, the youngest is only 32, all are full of determination and enthusiasm.
According to Major Nguyen Cong Huan, pilot and navigator (Air Force Regiment 917, Division 370), who participated in missions A70 and A50 in Ho Chi Minh City, he has now continued from the South to the North to carry out the flight mission in the A80 ceremony.
“Being part of the parade formation is a great honor and pride for the Air Defense - Air Force soldiers. We carry a special responsibility on our shoulders and are always determined to complete our mission excellently.”
Regarding weather conditions, Major Nguyen Cong Huan said that in the first days, the hot weather made the body unfamiliar, but thanks to the physical training process and strict living regimen, the pilots quickly adapted and did not feel much difficulty.
In recent days, the pilots participating in the A80 mission have completed a formation flight of two helicopters, creating the premise for the next training sessions. Currently, the formation of three helicopters is being deployed for training with higher requirements on technique, precision and coordination between pilots.
This is an important stage to gradually increase the scale, towards the ultimate goal of building a synchronized flight formation with 10 helicopters, serving the flight demonstration in the grand ceremony celebrating the 80th anniversary of National Day, September 2.
In a formation of 3 helicopters, the pilots and crew members need to coordinate closely to maintain formation and ensure absolutely accurate flight distance.
Each control movement requires high concentration, smooth coordination skills and perfect understanding between members, to create a synchronized, beautiful and absolutely safe flying formation.
In addition to using the walkie-talkie communication system, pilots also combine direct observation with the naked eye and give out signals to ensure the flight formation maintains an even distance.
These seemingly simple but precise signs, signals and codes require absolute concentration, quick judgment and good coordination between each pilot, contributing to maintaining a safe and beautiful flight formation throughout the mission.
After many hours of flying in the sky around Hoa Lac airport ( Hanoi ), the helicopters landed safely one after another, ending the training flight of the day.
According to the flight plan for mission A80, the flight formation was organized with 9 groups, a total of 30 aircraft of various types, including helicopters, C295, C212i, Yak-130, L-39NG and SU-30MK2. Three airports were arranged as take-off and landing points: Hoa Lac, Gia Lam (Hanoi) and Kep ( Bac Ninh ), ensuring smooth coordination and absolute safety for each flight.
By evening, each pilot continued to take off, performing night flights in the unit's regular mixed day-night training flight plan.
This is a regular flight activity, not part of the A80 mission plan, but is still carried out with a serious spirit and strict technical requirements, to practice skills, maintain proficiency and skills in handling unexpected situations, ensuring flight safety for pilots and crew members.
