Trieu Van Hung (2008), currently studying at the Center for Vocational Education - Continuing Education in Yen Dung Ward, Bac Ninh Province, is one of the special circumstances of the program. Hung did not know who his father was and grew up under the care of his mother. However, when he was only 7 years old, his mother was diagnosed with kidney failure. More than 10 years later, despite her strong fight against the disease, Hung's mother continued to face complications of pleural effusion and passed away in January 2025.
Currently, Trieu Van Hung is living with his grandmother Le Thi Kha (born 1935) in Dong Viet commune, Bac Ninh province (formerly Bac Giang province). At the age of 90, Mrs. Kha is old and weak, her eyes are almost blind, she has high blood pressure and has difficulty walking. She is no longer able to work, and receives 750,000 VND in elderly allowance each month.
The family is poor, with no breadwinner and no stable source of income. In that situation, Trieu Van Hung, only 17 years old, became the sole support not only for himself but also for his frail grandmother.
After school, Trieu Van Hung is busy with housework, cooking and taking care of the small vegetable garden behind the house. He sells the harvested vegetables at the market to earn some extra income to help his grandmother. The daily meals of the two grandmothers are very simple, mainly homegrown vegetables. Occasionally, the neighbors share some food out of sympathy.
Currently, Hung is studying both the cultural program and the E-commerce major at the Vocational Education and Training Center of Yen Dung Ward, Bac Ninh Province. Despite his difficult life and lack of everything, he has never given up his dream of studying. Hung always believes that only knowledge can help him overcome adversity and escape poverty. With that spirit, he strives to study every day, nurturing his desire to enter university and change his future with his own hands and will.
Hung confided that he had never met his father and did not know who he was. However, he did not blame him, because he thought that "my father must have his own reasons for not accepting me back". However, deep down, Hung still could not hide his sadness when he saw his friends with complete parents, being cared for and looked after. Many times, he just wished he had a complete family like everyone else.
When mentioning his mother, Hung’s eyes darkened. He said his biggest regret in life was not growing up enough to earn money to treat his mother’s illness. “The day my mother passed away, I cried a lot. I promised my mother that I would try to study hard and take good care of her…”, Hung quietly shared.
One thing that made Hung feel uneasy after his mother passed away was not having a clear portrait of her. After a lifetime of hard work and worry, his mother never had a proper photo taken. When his mother passed away, Hung had to rummage through rare old photos, choosing a blurry one to enlarge as a portrait. Looking at it, he choked up because he could not clearly see his mother's face - the woman who had spent her whole life quietly sacrificing for her children and her old mother.
MC Duong Hong Phuc could not hide his emotion when hearing Hung's story. He shared: "A mother spent her entire youth supporting her family, taking care of her elderly mother, raising her young children... until the end of her life, she still did not have a single beautiful photo of herself. That seemingly small thing became an endless regret in the heart of an orphaned child - when he only wished to see his mother's face clearly through the portrait" .
Unable to hold back her emotions when witnessing the image of Hung standing alone at the recording session, without his mother by his side, and his grandmother old and weak, actress Phuong Oanh burst into tears. Sharing on the show, she choked up and said: “Watching the clip about Hung’s situation, I believe that the hardships and losses he had to go through have touched the hearts of many people. But what really broke me was his eyes – eyes filled with pain but still shining with strength and resilience. He had to overcome everything, standing firm in life at such a young age. I both love and admire Hung’s will. I hope he will keep his faith in life, because there are many good things and kind hearts out there. As long as he perseveres, I believe he will reach his dream.”
Singer Hoang Ton could not hide his emotions when listening to Trieu Van Hung's story. Witnessing the deep affection Hung had for his mother, the male singer expressed his sympathy, because the image of a mother silently sacrificing everything for her children reminded him of his own mother, a woman who also hid all difficulties to give the best to her children.
He sent sincere words of encouragement to Hung, encouraging him to continue trying: “Even though your mother is no longer by your side, you can still make her proud with a happy life, with your own strength and determination. I believe that your mother from far away will always watch over you and feel at ease.”
In addition to sharing and encouraging the characters, the artists also contributed to the challenges, helping the children bring home valuable prizes from Hoa Sen Group. Accordingly, Nguyen Danh Tuan's family came in third, receiving a prize of 19 million VND. The remaining two cases are Trieu Van Hung's family coming in second, receiving a prize of 22 million VND. Vi Quoc Viet's family came in first, completing the special challenge and bringing home 50 million VND. Thus, the total prize money from Hoa Sen Group given to the characters this week is 91 million VND.
During the break of the recording session, the Organizing Committee of the Vietnamese Family Home program organized a direct donation activity to support the participating characters. The artists did not hesitate to hold the donation box, going to each row of the audience to receive support. In addition, many benefactors also prepared dozens of envelopes of cash, hand-delivered to each family in difficult circumstances. The total amount of cash donated at the studio during the recording session reached more than 270 million VND - a meaningful number showing the kindness and positive influence that the program has been creating.
The sincere affection from the audience for the difficult circumstances in the program Vietnamese Family Warmth made the atmosphere at the studio emotional. Actress Phuong Oanh choked up and bowed to thank the families, expressing her gratitude to the golden hearts who supported her: “Today I feel the national spirit, the great mutual love of the Vietnamese people. I have always believed in that, but today, when I directly lived in the loving atmosphere, witnessed the affection everyone had for the children in the program, I was truly moved and happy.”
Not only showing sympathy, the actress also prepared special gifts for the families, hoping to add more faith and motivation. Accompanying her, singer Hoang Ton also used his own money to give each family 5 million VND. As the host of the program, MC Duong Hong Phuc also did not forget to prepare meaningful gifts for the characters, hoping to help them overcome adversity and move towards a brighter future.
The program Vietnamese Family Warmth airs at 8:20 p.m. every Friday on HTV7. The program is produced by Bee Media Company in collaboration with Ho Chi Minh City Television, with the support of Hoa Sen Home Construction Materials & Interior Supermarket System (Hoa Sen Group) and Hoa Sen Plastic Pipe - Source of Happiness.
