The program aims to disseminate and popularize laws on combating illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing (IUU).
Speaking at the conference, a representative of the Coast Guard Region 3 Command said that IUU violations are still complicated, causing serious consequences such as: decline in aquatic resources, pollution of the marine environment, impact on fishermen's livelihoods and deterioration of national prestige in the international arena.
“Fighting against IUU fishing is not only the responsibility of the authorities, but also the responsibility of the whole society, especially fishermen - those who directly depend on the sea and protect the country's fishing grounds,” the representative of the Command emphasized.

In recent times, the Coast Guard Region 3 Command has increased coordination in patrolling, controlling, and strictly handling violations. At the same time, propaganda and mobilization work has been promoted to raise awareness and help fishermen voluntarily comply with legal regulations. Over the past two years, the Coast Guard Region 3 Command has coordinated to organize 5 programs "Coast Guard accompanies fishermen"; 4 contests "I love the sea and islands of my homeland" for secondary school students; presented 910 gifts to families with preferential policies and poor fishermen; presented 50 bicycles and 280 scholarships to poor but studious students. In addition, the unit also presented thousands of national flags, personal life jackets, and leaflets on law propaganda to ship owners and captains.

After listening to propaganda on combating illegal fishing, representatives of 8 fishing boat owners signed a commitment with the Command of Coast Guard Region 3 to comply with legal regulations on fishing.
On this occasion, the Command of Coast Guard Region 3 organized propaganda against IUU violations at Ba Tri Fishing Port (new) and Tiem Tom Town Secondary School; presented a total of 350 gifts to policy families, people, and fishermen in difficult circumstances including: life jackets, flashlights, medicine cabinets, national flags and propaganda materials; sponsored 2 students of Tan Thuy Secondary School and Tan Thuy Primary School in the first quarter of 2025.

In addition, the Coast Guard Region 3 Command coordinated with Hung Vuong Hospital (HCMC) to organize free medical examinations for 300 people, helping fishermen feel secure at sea.

The program “Coast Guard accompanies fishermen” not only helps people better understand the law and sovereignty of sea and islands, but also spreads the spirit of solidarity between the army and people, together building sustainable fishing grounds, protecting the sacred sovereignty of the sea and islands of the Fatherland.
