The sun is decreasing, why is Ho Chi Minh City still so hot?

Unseasonal rain has not yet appeared in Ho Chi Minh City although the intensity of the heat has decreased. The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said: In the Southern region today, the heat has decreased in intensity. At 1:00 p.m. on April 20, the highest temperature was 36 degrees Celsius in My Tho (Tien Giang), slightly lower in Chau Doc (An Giang) at 35.8 degrees Celsius; in the East, the highest temperature was 35.6 degrees Celsius in Thu Dau Mot ( Binh Duong ). Many other localities hovered around the 35 degree Celsius mark. Thus, compared to previous days, the highest temperature has generally decreased by 2 - 4 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, the humidity in the air has also increased slightly to 40 - 60%.

Sáng nay người dân Q.10 (TP.HCM) thức giấc với bầu trời đầy mây đen nên nhiều người hy vọng có mưa, nhưng tất cả đã trôi đi nhanh chóng chỉ có nắng nóng ở lại

This morning, people in District 10 (HCMC) woke up to a sky full of dark clouds, so many people hoped for rain, but everything passed quickly, leaving only the hot sun.

In Ho Chi Minh City, people often see dark clouds appearing in the early morning and late afternoon. Many people hope for an unseasonal rain to cool down, but the clouds have drifted away, leaving the scorching heat behind.

This morning, when she woke up and looked out the window, seeing the cloudy sky, Ms. Nguyen An, who lives in District 10, was full of hope that it would rain to cool down because she had to go out today. However, after 8 o'clock, the dark clouds disappeared, leaving only the bright and intense sunlight. At nearly 10 o'clock, she checked her phone and found that her temperature had reached 37 degrees Celsius. From 12 o'clock to 1:30 p.m., the temperature reached 40 degrees Celsius, although the meteorological temperature was only 33 degrees Celsius.

According to experts, the perceived temperature in Ho Chi Minh City is often 5 - 7 degrees Celsius higher than the meteorological temperature due to the high level of urbanization, large number of vehicles, factories, and cooling equipment.

The rain has not yet come, the hot sun has returned

On April 15, 2023, Ho Chi Minh City experienced a widespread unseasonal rain, especially in the city center, with heavy rain lasting about an hour. But this year, up to this point, there are still only sparse thunderstorms drifting across Ho Chi Minh City. Weather forecasts show that unseasonal rain is most likely to occur in some places in Ho Chi Minh City on April 18-19. But in reality, it did not happen as predicted and expected by many people.

Since April 21, the Indo-Burma low pressure in the west has been active and expanding to the east, affecting most of our country, causing the hot and extremely hot weather to continue for many days to come.

In the southeastern provinces, in the coming days, there will be widespread heat with the highest temperature of 37 - 38 degrees Celsius. In the western provinces, the common temperature will be 35 - 36 degrees Celsius.

For Ho Chi Minh City, the highest temperature is from 36 - 38 degrees Celsius, the possibility of rain is very low and almost non-existent.
