Nvidia resumes sales of H20 AI chip to China, BMW cooperates to develop smart driving technology in the billion-people market

VHO - On July 15, US technology corporation Nvidia announced that it would resume selling its H20 artificial intelligence (AI) chip to China, after Washington pledged to lift previous licensing restrictions.

Nvidia said it will soon apply to resume exporting its H20 graphics processors to China. The company also said the US government has assured it that a license will be granted and Nvidia expects to start shipping soon.

In a video broadcast by China's state-run CCTV on July 15, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang announced that the US government had approved the company's application for a license to start exporting H20 to the Chinese market.

Zhang Guobin, founder of eetrend.com, said that resuming H20 exports would bring significant profit growth to Nvidia to make up for previous losses due to the ban. In addition, resuming H20 exports would also help ease the impact of trade tensions on the global semiconductor supply chain. However, Zhang Guobin said that Chinese companies will still focus on developing domestic chips because the Trump administration's sudden policy changes make it difficult for companies to predict the situation.

China is one of the important markets for Nvidia, but in recent years the US technology corporation has encountered many difficulties in accessing this market due to the US government's tightening policy on semiconductor exports and fierce competition from Chinese rivals such as Huawei.

On the same day, German automaker BMW announced that it had reached a partnership agreement with Chinese technology company Momenta to cooperate in developing a new generation of intelligent driving assistance solutions specifically for the Chinese market.

Under the agreement, the two parties will use AI and advanced technologies to create a safe and reliable intelligent driving system that is suitable for China's road conditions. The system is based on BMW's Neue Klasse platform, which includes multi-scenario navigation and automatic parking technology to enhance the driving experience in Chinese cities. The system is expected to be applied to various models, including Neue Klasse models produced in China, and cover multiple market segments. The entire development process will ensure compliance with China's privacy and data security regulations.

“We look forward to establishing a model of co-creation and shared success with Momenta. This partnership will support BMW’s strategy in China and take BMW to the next level,” said Sean Green, President and CEO of BMW China.

Meanwhile, Momenta Director Cao Xundong said the cooperation agreement between the two sides will combine BMW's superior driving technology with AI innovation to bring smarter and safer mobility.
