Ho Chi Minh City's tourism industry is actively shifting from recovery to accelerated development, proactively adapting to the new context, promoting regional connectivity, sustainable development, taking people and tourists as the center, contributing to the successful implementation of the City's socio-economic development goals in 2025. Ho Chi Minh City continues to affirm its position as the leading tourist destination in Vietnam and Southeast Asia.

Domestic tourists to Ho Chi Minh City in 2025 are estimated at 45 million, an increase of 18.4% over the same period in 2024 (38 million in 2024), reaching 100% of the 2025 plan. Total tourism revenue in 2025 is estimated at VND 260,000 billion, an increase of 36.1% over the same period in 2024, reaching 100% of the 2025 plan.

The Department of Tourism has implemented the orientation and development of tourism products in Ho Chi Minh City with specific plans and projects for tourism development in Ho Chi Minh City. The Department of Tourism focuses on coordinating with departments, branches, localities and businesses to survey, design and develop many typical tourism routes, destinations and products: Building and announcing inter-district and inter-county tourism routes with strong local identity, organizing competitions, implementing large-scale tourism stimulus programs. The Department is also surveying and building new tourism products associated with cultural and historical depth in new communes and wards in Ho Chi Minh City. Waterway tourism continues to be a highlight with the restoration and development of canoe, yacht and speedboat routes connecting Ho Chi Minh City with the provinces of the Mekong Delta.

In the field of typical products, the program "Each district has at least one typical tourism product" has achieved initial results with over 60 products introduced. Souvenirs and OCOP products continue to be promoted at events, hotels, and tourist attractions. The Department of Tourism also regularly organizes training courses to improve the quality of tourism human resources. In particular, from July 1, 2025, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism will officially come into operation according to Resolution No. 361/NQ-HDND dated July 1, 2025 of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council and its functions and tasks are stipulated in Decision No. 13/2025/QD-UBND dated July 1, 2025. The (new) Department of Tourism has received civil servants and employees of 03 Departments/03 provinces and cities when merging with 05 specialized Departments under the Department.

The Department said it will continue to promote decentralization and delegation of power; strengthen inspection, supervision and accountability; prevent shirking of responsibility, resolutely eliminate the "ask - give" mechanism, complete the arrangement and organization of the apparatus; strengthen decentralization and delegation of power to localities, enhance the responsibility of leaders; further promote the work of preventing and combating corruption, waste, negativity, and group interests; tighten discipline and administrative discipline associated with inspection, supervision, control of power and resource allocation, and improve enforcement capacity.
