Apple is developing at least seven head-mounted devices across two product lines, according to TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. One could appear as early as 2025.

“Apple identified head-mounted displays as the next big trend in consumer electronics.

The company is developing at least seven projects, including three Vision products and four versions of smart glasses. Five products have a development roadmap, while the remaining two devices are not yet specifically determined,” Kuo said.

The analyst also revealed detailed information for each product. First, the new version of Apple Vision Pro is expected to use the M5 processor chip, other parameters remain unchanged. Kuo predicts that the device will be mass produced from the third quarter, with output expected to reach 150,000-200,000 units by the end of this year.

Next, the low-cost version of Vision Pro is expected to be called Vision Air, mass-produced from Q3/2027. According to Kuo, the product is estimated to be 40% lighter than Vision Pro, using plastic and magnesium alloy instead of glass and titanium alloy. The device is still equipped with the "highest-end" processor chip on the iPhone but has fewer sensors.

For the second-generation Vision Pro, Kuo said the product will have a new design, a “Mac-like” performance processor, and mass production from the second half of 2028. The analyst predicts the product will be lighter and cheaper than its predecessor.

In addition to Vision, Apple is also developing traditional smart glasses similar to Meta Ray-Ban. The first generation is expected to be mass produced in the second quarter of 2027, later than previously rumored (2026) with an output of 3-5 million units.

According to Kuo, the product will have many different frame and material options. Key features include voice control, gesture recognition, photo/ video recording, environmental scanning sensors, and AI audio.

Next up are two new augmented reality (XR) glasses with integrated displays. The first device is expected to be produced in 2028 with gesture and voice control features. Meanwhile, the second model has no specific time or specifications yet.

Finally, there is the wearable accessory in the form of an extended display for Mac and iPhone. According to Kuo, the product development process has been paused due to many problems, but it can still be restarted in the future. The device is expected to use Birdbath optical lenses, mass production from the second quarter of 2026.

Despite its long history, smart glasses have yet to become mainstream. According to Kuo, Apple could help make the product more mainstream, even if it launches later than its competitors.

“Apple’s entry is expected to increase total smart glasses production to 10 million units by 2027, marking an emerging technology trend…

Before Apple launched its smart glasses with integrated screens, some brands planned to launch their products earlier to gain a foothold in the market. However, considering the technology and factors that need to be improved in design, this is still a device serving a niche market in the next 2 years," he emphasized.
