Schedule of Stage 1 of SEA V.League 2025 Men's Volleyball Tournament - Graphics: AN BINH
Compared to last year, this year's SEA V.League has added one more team, Cambodia, bringing the total number of participating teams to 5. Previously, from 2023 to 2024, the tournament only had 4 teams: Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines.
This helps increase the number of matches in the tournament, improving the professional quality. However, in return, the size of the prize money has decreased. This year's champion team only received 13,000 USD. Meanwhile, the 2023 champion, Indonesia, received 17,000 USD, and the 2024 champion, Thailand, "pocketed" 16,000 USD.
At SEA V.League after 2 seasons, the Vietnamese men's volleyball team has had contrasting results.
Specifically, in 2023, they won the silver medal after finishing 3rd in stage 1 and 2nd in stage 2. But in 2024, coach Tran Dinh Tien's team disappointed when they lost all 6 matches in 2 stages, finishing last in the table. Part of the reason for their heavy defeat was due to the absence of some key athletes in the squad.
This year, the Vietnamese men's volleyball team was fortunate to avoid that situation. Setter Dinh Van Duy returned to take on the role of controlling the ball for his teammates. In addition, Pham Van Hiep also recovered from his injury in time to return to the team.
Overall, the Vietnamese men's volleyball team in SEA V.League 2025 is quite stable, with most of the players having played well at the AVC Nations Cup. Therefore, they can hope to improve their performance compared to last year to regain the trust of fans.
The men's content of the SEA V.League 2025 tournament will be held in the Philippines from July 9 to 13 and in Indonesia from July 16 to 20.
The women's event will take place in the first round from August 1 to 3 in Thailand and the second round from August 8 to 10 in Ninh Binh (Vietnam).
