Tra Que Vegetable Village in Hoi An Becomes 'World's Best Tourist Village'

The World Tourism Organization has just announced that Tra Que vegetable village in Hoi An is the second village in Vietnam to be included in the list of 'Best Tourist Villages in the World'. The ceremony to receive this title is expected to be held in Hoi An City in mid-December.

Tra Que is a famous vegetable village in Hoi An, emerging as an oasis surrounded by Co Co River and fields, natural canals on the route from the sea to the center of the old town.

People here have always grown vegetables by hand, using little chemical fertilizer. The difference in Tra Que vegetable village is that the herbs grown here have a characteristic mild aroma, more fragrant than those grown in other places.

Tra Que vegetables are grown on an area of about 40 hectares, each household is divided into small plots and planted with 40 different types of vegetables to supply restaurants and hotels in Da Nang and Hoi An. Tra Que vegetables are also sold in many large supermarkets.

Hoi An Center for Culture, Sports and Radio and Television said that before 2020, Tra Que vegetable village tourism will be organized by businesses.

Since 2020, ticket sales and investment have been transferred to a public service unit in Hoi An. Currently, Tra Que attracts tens of thousands of visitors each year. Tickets sold range from 20,000 to 30,000 per year.

Visitors to the vegetable village can directly visit and experience growing vegetables with the locals; enjoy drinks, cakes... combined with local vegetables.

The history of Tra Que vegetable village was born and existed for nearly 400 years, closely associated with the ancient town of Hoi An. Locals said that the oasis in Tra Que was previously an alluvial area. Locals found the land fertile, so they planted vegetables and noted that the quality and productivity were much better than other places.

With Tra Que vegetable village being included in the list of the best tourist villages in the world, Hoi An city has more motivation to firmly orient itself towards becoming a cultural, ecological and environmental urban area.

This is also a worthy reward for the joint efforts of the community and government to preserve the peaceful, rustic and friendly image of Hoi An.
