"Journalists must maintain professional reputation in any circumstances"
In 1992, when the province was separated, I and 5 colleagues from Ha Nam Ninh Newspaper returned to build Ninh Binh Newspaper. In the early days, everything was lacking, and we had a hard time working, mainly going to the base by bicycle, and the roads were very bad at that time, so it was quite difficult to get news and articles. However, with our passion for the job, we all worked hard and attached ourselves to the base, so we had many articles that were close to the real situation, hot and current, and each printed issue was very much appreciated by readers. For those in the profession, being loved by readers is an immeasurable happiness. That is why the more we work, the more we are passionate about the job, the more we travel, the more enthusiastically we write. But it is difficult to gain the trust and love of readers, and it is even more difficult to maintain the trust and respect of everyone for the writing profession. Personally, I always keep in mind that I have to maintain the prestige of the profession and the reputation of a journalist. That awareness has always been present in me from the time I first entered the profession until I put down my pen. Professional reputation comes from hard work, constant learning from friends and colleagues, and a constant thirst for creativity in each work. As for a journalist’s reputation, the person himself must constantly cultivate and practice during his career. Journalism is inherently harsh, but the public’s evaluation and recognition are always fair and respectful of journalists who are dedicated to their profession.
“My secret is to be passionate about my job”
I am an amateur announcer. I came to this profession because of a strong love. Since childhood, I loved listening to the radio so much that I could listen to any program, listening as if absorbing every word and imitating reading along. The voices of Ms. Tuyet Mai and Ms. Kim Cuc seemed to touch the soul of the listener, so passionate and profound that I was fascinated and dreamed of becoming an announcer. Luckily, in addition to my passion, I was gifted with a pleasant voice. And one day, Ninh Binh Radio Station (the predecessor of Ninh Binh Radio and Television Station) was recruiting announcers. When I heard the news, I was very happy, and eagerly went to audition, unexpectedly the Station Chief (at that time was Mr. Hoang Chuong) accepted me immediately. Being accepted into the Station, I was extremely happy. So I touched my dream.
A radio announcer is not a… talking machine. In addition to a good voice, creativity and the ability to perceive are required, as well as a spirit of continuous learning. Throughout my career, the station entrusted me with reading many important news bulletins, including those from the historic period of 1975. I retired in 2007. My greatest success is the trust of my colleagues and the love of my listeners. Many people have never met me, but are familiar with my voice like a close family bond.
“If I had the chance to choose again, I would still choose journalism.”
In 1994, I worked at Ninh Binh Newspaper, which can be called the second generation after the province's re-establishment in 1992. From the time I joined the newspaper until my retirement (in 2022), I worked continuously at Ninh Binh Newspaper for 28 years. In fact, there were many opportunities to change careers, but I still persisted in journalism. I think I chose and am passionate about this profession. During that time, I also experienced all the emotions of joy and sadness in the profession, but I am always proud and cherish the past time. I chose journalism and the profession chose me. I myself think that no matter what profession, if I choose and dedicate myself, I will reap the rewards.
During my time as a journalist, I was able to travel, write, experience and was fortunate to have articles that were more or less remembered by readers. Up to now, after three years of retirement, thinking back on the past time, I still have many emotions. And if I had the chance to choose again, I would still choose journalism. On June 21, the whole society honors those who work in journalism, and at the same time, it is an opportunity for journalists to reflect on themselves, to become more and more perfect, to better and better fulfill the mission that society has entrusted.
“Sometimes, the images are the precious details in every documentary”
After graduating from Nguyen Du Writing School, I joined Ha Nam Ninh Radio and Television Station in 1976. Until my retirement, I had worked in the radio and television industry for nearly 40 years. Throughout my career, I have produced many works in many different genres, but the genre I love the most is documentary filmmaking. For a documentary, the most difficult part is finding a topic, then building a detailed and thorough script, then surveying the filming location, choosing the shooting angle, etc.
For me, an attractive documentary does not necessarily have to be about big topics, but it must be about topics that can touch the hearts of the audience. There are things that seem simple but have deep meanings, there are images that seem to be secondary but become the most valuable details of the film. Therefore, the vibe of a journalist will create a unique material, a work that is "unique".
I have a documentary that won the Silver Award at the Vietnam Television Film Festival held in Hue in 1999, which is the film "Drum beat village". This film depicts the beauty of labor and life after the salty sweat of drum beaters in Ninh Phong commune. Winning the Silver Award at that time was a valuable recognition for those working in the profession. However, it is not my most memorable film. The film that impressed me and still makes me emotional when recalling it is the documentary "Echo of a sound". The main character in this film is the janitor, the person in charge, the person who conducts the drum beat of Luong Van Tuy High School. The film has fully portrayed what I wanted to convey, about a familiar, familiar sound; honoring the beauty of the persistent labor of the person who conducts the school drum beat, the person who signals the time to go to class, the time to leave school, the mid-day exercise period...
The most impressive scene for me is the closing scene of the film. It was on a holiday, students rushed to give flowers to their teachers. Meanwhile, in a corner of the school yard, the janitor with a gentle smile, still diligently did his work silently without any hesitation or jealousy, because to him, this was his duty.
The film ends, the sound of the school drum becomes a beautiful echo in the hearts of viewers, expressing the audience's affection, respect, and love for the silent work of the janitor, and somewhere, there is a moment of regret about the unintentionalness... the janitor at the school, would probably be very happy to receive a word of thanks in that journey of gratitude.
