On December 15, information from the Gia Lai Provincial Center for Disease Control said that the province had just recorded a death due to rabies. The deceased case was SK (born in 1991, residing in Pham Kleo Ngol village, Bar Maih commune, Chu Se district).
According to family members, about a month ago, while returning home from work in Pham Klăh village, Bar Măih commune (Chu Se district), patient SK was bitten on the left ankle by a dog running loose on the street, causing a deep wound and heavy bleeding.

After being bitten by a dog, the patient went home and asked his family to take him to a private medical facility in Bo Ngoong commune (Chu Se district) to treat the wound and receive an injection of an unknown type of medicine. After that, the patient was advised to get a rabies vaccination, but the patient did not get the vaccine or anti-rabies serum.
After 4 days, the wound still did not heal, so the patient's family took him to the same private medical facility for another injection (unknown type). On December 9, the patient had a headache, fever, fear of water and wind.
The next morning, the family took the patient to the Emergency Department of the Provincial General Hospital for examination and was diagnosed with rabies. The patient was then transferred to the Tropical Diseases Department for treatment. After the doctors explained the patient's condition, the family asked to take the patient home that same day for convenient care. On December 11, the patient died at home.
Accordingly, since the beginning of the year, Gia Lai province has recorded 13 deaths due to rabies, and this is also the locality with the highest number of deaths due to rabies in the country.
