Khanh Hoa pilots offshore aquaculture 3-6 nautical miles

With the orientation of developing the marine aquaculture industry on a modern industrial scale, offshore, Khanh Hoa province has announced a pilot project of high-tech marine aquaculture.

On March 7, 2025, in Nha Trang City, Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee and Thien Tam Fund ( Vingroup Corporation) officially announced the implementation of the Pilot Project for developing high-tech marine aquaculture in Khanh Hoa.

According to the project, during the pilot period until 2029, it will target sea areas within 2 ranges: 3 nautical miles and from 3 to 6 nautical miles.

In the sea area up to 3 nautical miles, the pilot area for developing high-tech marine farming reached 240 hectares, with an output of more than 3,600 tons.

In the sea area from 3 to 6 nautical miles, the pilot area for developing high-tech marine farming reached 200 hectares, with an output of more than 5,100 tons.

The project sets out 6 tasks: Developing breeds for high-tech marine farming; developing commercial farming technology; monitoring the environment, proactively preventing diseases, adapting to climate change; marine farming logistics services; preserving and consuming products; converting marine farming technology to 3 nautical miles.

In addition, the project also proposes policies to support the development of marine aquaculture, solutions on science and technology, international cooperation and environmental protection, solutions on human resources, etc.

The project was implemented with the sponsorship and coordination of the Thien Tam Fund (Vingroup Corporation) to introduce technology to fishermen.

The high-tech marine farming model has been implemented since May 2023 with 10 households participating in lobster and marine fish farming using HDPE cages, with an underwater camera surveillance system and a positioning system in the open sea area of Cam Lap commune (Cam Ranh city).

By June 2024, this pilot model had been concluded with 10 households participating in harvesting and achieving higher profits than traditional wooden cage farming.

Specifically, the profit margin of cobia farming households reached 172% compared to households raising the same scale using traditional wooden cages, of lobster farming households reached 112%, of grouper farming households reached 131.4%.

In addition, new farming technology also protects the farming environment, minimizes risks caused by natural disasters, beautifies the landscape, and can be combined with the development of eco-tourism...
