Exploiting the strengths of farming, processing and exporting aquatic products in An Giang

The Agriculture and Environment sector must play a pioneering role in restructuring the agricultural development space, effectively exploiting the new strengths of the province after the merger. It is necessary to promote the advantages of the freshwater - brackish water, marine farming - mangrove forests of the Ha Tien - Kien Luong - U Minh Thuong area, closely combining with the rice - fish, sticky rice - fruit trees, high-tech vegetables of the Chau Phu, Tri Ton, Tinh Bien, Cho Moi areas. Proactively propose planning specialized agricultural areas, key products according to the old - new areas".
Mr. Ngo Cong Thuc suggested: “Developing green - circular - organic agriculture associated with environmental protection is a strategic requirement. To do this, it is necessary to strengthen coordination between levels, sectors, localities and the business community, mobilize and effectively use resources to develop green, circular agriculture. The Department needs to focus on proposing circular agricultural economic models, developing sustainable livelihoods for farmers, reducing dependence on chemicals and inorganic fertilizers. At the same time, thoroughly handle outstanding environmental issues, focus on perfecting the collection and treatment system of rural waste, pesticide packaging; strengthen pollution control from aquaculture, concentrated livestock farming, and industrial clusters”.
Along with that, the agriculture and environment sector must take the lead in applying digital transformation, science - technology, biotechnology in production and management. Especially the system of codes for planting areas, farming areas, electronic diaries, traceability, digital maps of land - water - environmental resources to serve smart management and climate change adaptation. Natural resource management - environmental protection must be upgraded to a provincial strategic level. It is necessary to soon complete the inter-provincial environmental database; unify the management and environmental inspection focal points from the provincial to grassroots levels. In particular, pay attention to developing the model of "green - clean - environmentally safe" communes/wards, associated with building a new model rural area. Effective land management must be well organized. In terms of mineral exploitation, advise the Provincial People's Committee to implement in accordance with the planning, ensure the supply of raw materials for economic development, and effective land management.
The key issue is to perfect the staff and strengthen the core leadership role of Party organizations in the whole industry. Over the past 5 years, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has paid attention to directing and effectively implementing professional tasks. In the field of agriculture and rural development, the total value of agricultural, forestry and fishery production in the period of 2020 - 2025 reached 131,603 billion VND, an average growth of 3.35%/year (exceeding the resolution's target of 2.8%/year). The direction of the implementation of plans and programs for agricultural and rural development such as: "Project on restructuring the agricultural sector in the period of 2021 - 2025, with a vision to 2030 in An Giang province" has been focused on. Regarding poverty reduction, the province's multidimensional poverty rate in the period of 2021 - 2025 will be reduced by an average of 0.77%/year, achieving the set plan (target from 0.5% - 1.2%/year). Investing in building essential infrastructure systems in rural areas; effectively implementing national target programs in rural areas. The field of natural resources and environment will perform well the tasks of land, mineral, environmental management, natural resource and environmental monitoring, water resource management and hydrometeorology, etc.
The industry aims to drastically implement the breakthrough "four pillars" from now until 2030: Developing a modern, sustainable, highly competitive agriculture and environment sector, maximizing the advantages of combining "mountains - plains - borders - islands", integrating border economy and marine economy. Strongly shifting to a development model based on knowledge, high technology and private economy as strategic driving force... contributing significantly to making the new An Giang province a dynamic, comprehensive and sustainable development center of the Mekong Delta region; aiming to become a national marine economic center, creating an important growth pole and a model of organizational reform and sustainable development. Focusing on solutions to increase the average value of agricultural - forestry - fishery production by 4%, average rice output reaching over 8 million tons/year, building a modern and sustainable agriculture.
