In recent days, rubber growers in Cam Lo district have been worried as hundreds of hectares of rubber trees in the exploitation period have been infected with disease and gradually dying for unknown reasons.

According to local people, the phenomenon of rubber trees being infected with disease has been occurring since the beginning of 2024 and shows no signs of stopping. Initially, the branches of the trees dried up from the bottom up, the leaves withered and then gradually died.

According to information from the Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Cam Lo district, Pham Viet Thanh, there are currently more than 200 hectares of rubber trees in the district that are diseased, spread across all growing areas, but the most serious is in Cam Thanh commune. The diseased area is mainly rubber trees that are 10 years old or older. The rate of diseased trees in low areas is about 30% - 40%, in high areas it is up to over 80%. In the face of the epidemic on rubber trees, the unit has coordinated with functional sectors to collect samples for analysis, and so far has basically determined that the disease is caused by a combination of "strange" fungi that spread very quickly.

To promptly control the epidemic and limit damage, the Cam Lo district agricultural sector recommends that people stop exploiting to preserve the rubber trees; clean the garden, collect diseased leaves and branches from the garden and destroy them. At the same time, coordinate with the provincial Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection and Nicotex Joint Stock Company to use drones to deploy a pilot spraying of 3 hectares in Cam Thanh commune to have a basis for expansion.
