On August 31, according to Reuters news agency, the South African Emergency Management Agency announced that up to 73 people died and more than 50 people were injured in a fire at a high-rise building in Johannesburg.

Firefighters and rescue workers are working to extinguish the fire and search for survivors in the disaster. Authorities have blocked off some surrounding roads to allow firefighters to move around and evacuate residents in several nearby buildings.

The cause of the fire has not been determined. Images taken at the scene show a large fire, spreading from the lower floors of the building. There were about 200 people in the building when the fire broke out.
