Ahead of the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship, coach Thawachai Dumrongongtrakun affirmed that the goal of Thailand U23 is to win the championship cup, despite fierce competition from Vietnam U23, Indonesia and Malaysia U23.
"This is my first time leading the Thai U23 team, but I have full confidence in the players' ability and spirit. I completely believe that this team is capable of winning the championship for the country" - Coach Thawachai emphasized at the press conference before the tournament.
The 52-year-old strategist also highly appreciated strong opponents such as U23 Vietnam, Indonesia and Malaysia, but is confident that his team will win the final if they pass the group stage: "U23 Vietnam, Indonesia and Malaysia are very strong teams. If they pass the group stage and have information about their opponents, I believe Thailand will win."
Mr. Thawachai Dumrongongtrakun is confident that he can defeat Vietnam.
In Group C, U23 Thailand only has to face Myanmar and Timor Leste, but Mr. Thawachai warned his players not to be complacent, and considered this tournament a stepping stone to prepare for bigger playgrounds.
The 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship is taking place from today until July 29. Vietnam U23 is the defending champion for two consecutive seasons, but coach Kim Sang-sik and his students will face a big challenge from the ambitions of Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia.
