'Deep down, the Vietnamese women's team all want to go to the World Cup'
In the final match of Group E of the 2026 Women's Asian Cup qualifiers, the Vietnamese women's team won 4-0 against Guam. Thereby, coach Mai Duc Chung and his team won a ticket to the 2026 Women's Asian Cup finals (playing in March 2026).
After the match, coach Mai Duc Chung shared: "I am satisfied with the result of this match. The stature and strength of the Vietnamese players are inferior to the opponent team, but the way they played was cohesive in the past matches. The players did not play long balls but coordinated triangles, attacked the two wings, had good tactics and performed well, which led to goals. Guam is also much stronger than the two opponents UAE and Maldives".

The training time is longer but still not enough, the preparation is not the best. If there is time, we will practice the results, finish better. I also wish to take 3 to 4 players from the U.20 team but I can't, because the tournament is also about to take place. I hope next time there will be longer preparation."
'Guam can't score just because they want to'
Midfielder Bich Thuy said : "We tried very hard but Guam cannot score goals just because they want to. In every tournament, we have the highest determination, the Vietnamese women's team always sets the goal of reaching the final and winning the title.
After completing the 2026 Asian Cup qualifiers with a direct ticket to the finals in Australia next year (March 1-21, 2026), the Vietnamese women's team will participate in the 2025 Southeast Asian Women's Championship with 3 group stage matches against Cambodia (August 6), Indonesia (August 9) and Thailand (August 12).
What did the Guam women's team coach say?
On the other side, coach Kimberly Sherman shared: "This was a difficult match. Although the result was not as expected, I believe that our players fought with all their might. Vietnam is an experienced opponent and that was clearly shown on the field today. But we were not discouraged. I am proud of my team today."

The biggest challenge is always maintaining focus and discipline when entering any tournament, especially when playing away from home, having to adapt to the environment, new and unpredictable things. However, my team has the ability to adapt well. Although we are still inexperienced and have not had many opportunities to compete, I think we have learned a lot from this match. There are many positive points to draw. We will come back stronger and we will not stop here."
