Hang Chi Huy , where history echoes
Located at Km12, Road 20 Quyet Thang in the core area of Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park ( Quang Tri ), Hang Chi Huy used to be the strategic logistics base of Command 559 during the resistance war against the US. This place used to store thousands of tons of goods, weapons, food, and was an important coordination center to ensure that the supply line from North to South was never cut off.
After nearly half a century, this relic has been restored and developed into an eco-tourism area “Legendary Truong Son Road – Chi Huy Cave”, providing authentic experiences through the exhibition system, historical interactive zones, and especially vivid 9D virtual reality projection. This turns the tour into an intuitive and attractiveeducational journey, especially for students. In the future, this will also be a “red address” in traditional education for generations of students in Quang Tri province.
Many teachers in the delegation visiting the Command Cave shared: We and the students had heard and seen documents about the Truong Son trail, but when we 'heard the bombs falling with our own ears and saw real bomb shells with our own eyes' at the place that used to be the logistics depot, we could truly 'touch' the past. Every step was an experience, an association with the stories of hardship and suffering of the frontline workers and who did not hesitate to sacrifice soldiers themselves to achieve the historic victory.
“Perhaps, no sermon is as moving as those footsteps in that cold and dark cave.”…
"While sitting on the Zil-130 vehicle in the exhibition area, I felt like I was in the middle of a real bomb rain. I heard the sound of B52 planes screeching, the rocks shaking, and wondered: How could the soldiers survive and drive in such hell? After that experience, I felt that I had to cherish the present more."… Many school-age children who followed their families to the Command Cave today have changed their perspective on national history.
Monuments, "know" to understand, "feel" to engrave
It can be said that the greatest value of Hang Chi Huy does not lie in the majesty of nature or the modern technologies applied, but in its ability to awaken the “civic consciousness” in each young person. On this 20 Quyet Thang route, the stories of the 8 female youth volunteers, the turtle lamps that cling to the road, or the scene of “we fix, we go” amid bullets all leave an echo in the hearts of young people, urging them to live more responsibly towards the past and future of the country.
Mr. Nguyen Chau My - General Director of T20 Quyet Thang Company Limited shared: Perhaps in an era where students are easily caught up in the digital world, field trips to relics such as Chi Huy Cave are "spiritual medicine" to remind them of their roots.
“When the idea of opening this tourist route came up, many teachers confided in me that historical sites like Chi Huy Cave are an important extension of the life skills, history and civics education program. When history is told using modern technology and real space, students will receive knowledge naturally, even proactively seek out more information – something that is difficult to do with classroom curriculum,” Mr. Nguyen Chau My confirmed.
From those emotional experiences, Chi Huy Cave is no longer a mere destination, but...", Chi Huy Cave is now revived not only as a relic - but also as a bridge of memories. There, each stone wall that once witnessed survival, each cave floor that once carried food to feed the army, each tunnel that once hid sacrifices - now becomes a vivid lesson for the younger generation to "learn to be truly Vietnamese".
Hang Chi Huy deserves to be considered a useful practical experience for the young generation, where every breath of the past still exists, so that each student entering brings with them a belief, a reflection, a deep commitment to the country.
