Dong Son Ward Center today
Ancient Land
Mentioning Dong Son today, many people will remember the "names of land, names of villages" that have gone down in history. That is Trang hamlet. Going back to the past, during the days of American imperialist bombing, Dong Hoi (now Dong Hoi and Dong Thuan wards) became a fierce battlefield.
Thousands of people from Dong Hoi moved to the west of the old city, including Trang hamlet, to evacuate. After the war ended, some people did not return to the city but remained in the land and village, joining hands to build a new life, painting the countryside beautiful. From a difficult land, up to now, the hard-working people have created a green hilly area, with trees bearing flowers and fruits...
12km west of Dong Hoi ward center, Thuan Duc has its back against the majestic Truong Son mountain range and faces the East Sea. This was the province's first base during the early period of the resistance war against France in 1947.
Although it was a base for a short time, Thuan Duc land still holds many important events, marking a strong mark in the history of resistance of the Party, army and people of Quang Binh. Currently, the Thuan Duc resistance base still has traces of a location on Thuan Phong hill with an area of 10,000m2, which is a placeto educate revolutionary traditions for future generations.
Returning to the Thuan Duc resistance base, many people still have intact feelings about a land rich in love during the resistance war and hard-working in peacetime. Today, walking on new roads with a synchronous system of electricity, roads, schools, stations, and cultural houses; passing through lush, fertile gardens, one can feel the revival and prosperity of this revolutionary countryside.
The old Dong Hoi City had 15 communes and wards, now divided into 3 new wards, including: Dong Hoi Ward on the basis of merging the entire natural area and population of the communes and wards: Bao Ninh, Duc Ninh, Nam Ly, Dong Hai, Dong Phu, Duc Ninh Dong, Phu Hai, Hai Thanh; working location at the headquarters of the People's Committee of the old Dong Hoi City. Dong Thuan Ward on the basis of merging the entire natural area and population of the communes of Loc Ninh, Quang Phu and Bac Ly Ward, working location at the headquarters of Bac Ly Ward and Quang Phu Commune. Dong Son Ward on the basis of merging the entire natural area and population of the communes of Nghia Ninh, Thuan Duc and the wards of Bac Nghia, Dong Son, working location at the headquarters of Dong Son Ward, Bac Nghia Ward and Bac Nghia Ward Police. |
Prospects for new lands
From a locality with an area of 19.55km2 and over 10,000 people, after the merger, Dong Son ward now has an area of 88km2 and a population of nearly 32,400 people (based on the integration of the entire natural area and population of Dong Son ward, Bac Nghia ward, Nghia Ninh commune and Thuan Duc commune).
Dong Son ward one-stop shop comes into operation to serve people.
The four localities are adjacent and border each other; have specific factors and common characteristics in terms of historical and cultural traditions; similar customs and practices of the people; have a convenient transportation system for socio -economic development and people's transactions; ensure balance and similarity in scale between the new administrative units and other commune-level administrative units in the area.
Chairman of Dong Son Ward People's Committee Doan Hong Quan said that if in the past, Dong Son had a majority of residents who were retired officials, and a part of the population lived on traditional, small-scale trading services, it has now become a large locality with many industries, from animal husbandry, farming to small-scale industry. Industrial zones, clusters, and small-scale industries have developed, creating jobs for many workers.
There are currently highways and a number of large projects in the area, opening up opportunities for people to develop service industries. In particular, there are abundant land resources for people to develop afforestation and expand integrated economic models. Therefore, many key agricultural products are recognized as OCOP products, meeting VietGAP standards and the subjects are maintaining and continuing to expand production.
“With favorable soil conditions, the production facility currently has 2 hectares of well-developed raw materials, along with purchasing from people in neighboring areas, each year, the facility produces about 50 liters of lemongrass oil, 120 liters of cajuput oil, creating jobs for 6 seasonal workers and dozens of indirect workers. The family's cajuput essential oil and lemongrass oil products have been recognized as 3-star OCOP.
To maintain the brand, ensure the quality and reputation of the products to consumers, in the coming time, we will expand the scale and invest in modern equipment for essential oil production. I hope that industries and localities will pay attention and support so that the products can quickly reach the market", said Nguyen Thi Anh Nguyet, owner of cajuput and lemongrass essential oil production household.
Although the localities have just merged, the income of the people varies by region, from 50-60 million VND/person/year, but with a large potential, hopefully in the near future, Dong Son will promote its internal strength, take advantage of every opportunity to develop, improve and balance the income and life of the people, break through, and stand shoulder to shoulder with the new provincial center wards.
