After receiving information about a case of malaria in Song Yen village, Thien Cam commune ( Ha Tinh province), the Ha Tinh Center for Disease Control (CDC Ha Tinh) worked with local authorities and organized an investigation, monitoring, and environmental treatment of the area where the patient lived.

Thus, from the beginning of 2025 until now, Ha Tinh has recorded 6 cases of malaria, all of which are imported cases.

Blood samples were taken from family members of the HNN patient and neighboring households to test for malaria parasites.

According to the report of Thien Cam Commune Health Station, patient HNN (born in 1970, reported in Song Yen village, Thien Cam commune) is a laborer working in Angola who returned to Vietnam on June 16. On July 3, the patient had symptoms of fever and chills and went to a private clinic in the area but did not get better. That same afternoon, the patient was taken by his family to the Provincial General Hospital in Ha Tinh. Here, the patient's blood sample was taken for testing and the result was positive for malaria parasites.

After 5 days of treatment, the patient was stable and was sent home for continued monitoring.

Immediately after identifying a case of malaria, to proactively prevent the spread in the community, CDC Ha Tinh coordinated with Cam Xuyen Medical Center and Thien Cam Commune Health Station to urgently monitor cases in close contact with the patient, especially members of the household. At the same time, the organization investigated, captured and identified malaria mosquitoes; continued to expand epidemiological investigation, sprayed insecticide at the patient's family and household around where the patient lived.

CDC Ha Tinh also collected more than 60 blood samples from family members and neighboring households to test for malaria parasites.

Master Nguyen Huu Thanh - Deputy Director of CDC Ha Tinh emphasized: Although Ha Tinh has been recognized as eliminating malaria at the provincial level, however, the risks and potential of malaria still exist, especially from imported cases. In addition, the density and distribution of malaria mosquitoes have increased and are widely distributed due to the long-term lack of spraying chemicals and impregnating mosquito nets with chemicals to kill mosquitoes.

To maintain the achievements in malaria elimination, medical facilities as well as people need to raise vigilance, not be negligent or subjective in malaria prevention.

People returning from working in areas with malaria, suspected of having malaria or having symptoms of high fever, chills, sweating... should immediately go to a medical facility for examination, testing and timely treatment.

In addition, to prevent malaria, people need to take measures such as sleeping under mosquito nets regularly, especially mosquito nets treated with insecticide; eliminate mosquito breeding sites by cleaning the environment, unclogging sewers, and clearing; using protective measures when working in areas at risk of malaria (wearing long-sleeved clothes, using mosquito repellent, carrying mosquito nets...
