Vung Ang - Bung Expressway expected to open to traffic on August 19

(Baohatinh.vn) - The Vung Ang - Bung expressway (55 km long) connecting Ha Tinh with Quang Tri is expected to open to traffic on August 19, along with two other sections of the North - South expressway phase 2, namely Van Ninh - Cam Lo and Hoa Lien - Tuy Loan.

The information was given at the Ministry of Construction 's conference to evaluate the results of the first 6 months of the year and deploy key tasks for the last 6 months of 2025 held on July 7. Mr. Le Quyet Tien - Director of the Department of Economics - Construction Investment Management said that this year, about 889 km of 17 projects invested by the Ministry of Construction will be completed.

Accordingly, among the 12 component projects of the North-South Expressway Phase 2 (2021-2025), the Bai Vot - Ham Nghi, Ham Nghi - Vung Ang, Bung - Van Ninh sections and 70 km of the Van Phong - Nha Trang route have been put into operation since April 30.

By August 19, an additional 208 km of highway will be completed, including the 55 km Vung Ang - Bung section; the 65 km Van Ninh - Cam Lo section; and the 11 km Hoa Lien - Tuy Loan section through Da Nang City, coinciding with Ho Chi Minh Road.

The remaining 13 km of the Van Phong - Nha Trang section was also completed, along with some partially opened sections such as Quang Ngai - Hoai Nhon (10/88 km), Hoai Nhon - Quy Nhon (45/70 km), Quy Nhon - Chi Thanh (20/62 km).

The Ministry of Construction aims to complete all remaining North-South Expressway component projects by December this year.

At the conference, Minister of Construction Tran Hong Minh requested specialized units to speed up the disbursement of public investment capital, as there are currently about 63,000 billion VND that have not been disbursed, an average of 9,000 billion VND per month is needed.

He also directed specialized units to closely monitor the construction progress, especially projects that will start or be completed this year, towards celebrating the 80th anniversary of National Day on September 2. Project management boards urgently complete the selection of contractors to construct the traffic monitoring and control system on the North-South Expressway, ensuring synchronous operation from January 1, 2026.

The Vung Ang - Bung expressway is 55.34 km long, passing through Ha Tinh (12.9 km) and Quang Tri (42.44 km) provinces, with the starting point intersecting with National Highway 12C, connecting with Ham Nghi - Vung Ang expressway in Ky Hoa commune (Ky Tan commune, old Ky Anh district), Ha Tinh province and the end point in Bo Trach commune (Cu Nam commune, old Bo Trach district), Quang Tri province, connecting with Bung - Van Ninh expressway.

The project is invested by Project Management Board 6 (Ministry of Construction). At the investment phase, the expressway has 4 lanes, no emergency lane, and a number of emergency stops are arranged every 4-5km with a roadbed width of 17m and a design speed of 60-90 km/h.
