With practical support from all levels and sectors, especially the Department of Ethnic Minorities and Religions of Ca Mau province, Chinese classes like those at Duc Tai Center are organized regularly and systematically. Currently, the center has two classes, 114 students and 6 teachers teaching in rotation.
Mr. Lam Tan Loc, a Chinese teacher, said: “A course lasts 10 weeks. We maintain 2 classes for children aged 6-11 with Chinese textbooks volumes 1 and 2. For adults, we also continuously open classes with textbooks for semester 1, semester 2 and semester 3. We mainly help students listen and speak well, recognize letters and memorize characters. The teachers here all have many years of teaching experience, so the knowledge transfer is very good.”
The Chinese class attracts a large number of students who are Chinese children.
Chinese language classes not only attract Chinese children to study, but also Kinh people can register if they have the need, with a symbolic tuition fee. The purpose of Chinese language classes is to preserve the national language in the Chinese community in Ca Mau and to help those who need to use Chinese in work and communication when traveling or working abroad.
Tieu Hoang Yen, 7 years old, a student of Chinese language course book 1, shared: “My parents let me go to class so I can communicate within the family and read books left by my grandparents. I usually hear my family members speak Chinese so I am used to it and it is quite easy to learn.”
The province's attention does not stop at supporting the maintenance of classes but also extends to other areas. Every year, the Department of Ethnic Minorities and Religion also organizes meetings, exchanges, and information exchanges to grasp the thoughts, aspirations, and activities of the Chinese associations and groups in the area. From there, it contributes to strengthening the building of the great national unity bloc, creating strong trust for ethnic minorities in general and the Chinese in particular in the leadership of the Party, the management and administration of the State and local authorities.
Chinese classrooms are equipped with screens, facilitating teaching and learning.
Ms. Nguyen Thu Tu, Director of the Department of Ethnic Minorities and Religions, said: “In the coming time, the Department of Ethnic Minorities and Religions plans to coordinate with relevant provincial departments and branches to research and propose a number of other support mechanisms to help the Chinese community in Ca Mau further develop its culture and preserve its language and writing, such as: coordinating with the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to research and develop tours and special cultural tourism routes, exploiting the cultural values of the Chinese people at assembly halls, relics, and festivals to serve tourists. Accompanying in upgrading and renovating architectural relics typical of the Chinese community such as assembly halls, communal houses... to ensure aesthetics and cultural identity”.
Along with that, focus on enhancing the capacity of cadres in charge of ethnic affairs at all levels; integrate the content of preserving ethnic scripts and languages into basic cultural training courses. Call on social organizations and businesses to participate in supporting the preservation of Chinese cultural heritage through relic preservation activities, sponsoring writing classes, and ethnic art programs. In particular, create conditions for Chinese people to proactively propose, coordinate and participate in community activities, aiming to preserve language, script and culture in a systematic and long-term manner.
