In the second quarter of 2025, pepper prices were under strong downward pressure due to poor domestic crops and abundant imported supplies, causing prices to fall by more than VND20,000/kg compared to their peak. However, market signals are gradually improving. Farmers expect pepper prices to reach VND160,000/kg in early 2026 and even increase by the end of the year.
In Dak Lak alone, pepper prices are currently higher than the general level by about 1,000 - 2,000 VND/kg, reaching 141,000 - 142,000 VND/kg. The reason is that this area has many purchasing agents, a convenient logistics system and highly appreciated pepper quality, creating a competitive advantage for local farmers.

According to actual records, Mr. Hoang Phuoc Binh - a veteran pepper farmer in Gia Lai - shared that the local pepper price is currently fluctuating at 140,000 VND/kg. He predicted that the price may increase sharply in the near future due to the gradually scarce supply, opening up a positive outlook for the Vietnamese pepper industry.
Notably, the US – the world’s largest pepper consumer – has just imposed high reciprocal tariffs on other major pepper exporting countries, specifically 50% on Brazil and 32% on Indonesia. This creates a golden opportunity for Vietnamese pepper to consolidate its position in this market.
Data from the International Trade Center (ITC) shows that in May 2025, the US imported 8,050 tons of pepper, up 21.5% over the previous month. Of which, Vietnam took the lead with 6,170 tons, accounting for 76.6% of total imports, far surpassing competitors such as India (737 tons), Indonesia (604 tons) and Brazil (301 tons).
By the end of May 2025, the total import turnover of pepper in the US reached 36,260 tons, of which Vietnam accounted for 64.4% of the market share. Although this figure decreased by 3.3% compared to the same period in 2024, it still increased by an impressive 29.1% compared to 2023, affirming the position of Vietnamese pepper.
