Pepper prices stagnated at peak, market cautiously waiting for latest signal

Domestic pepper prices today continued to stabilize after a sharp increase at the beginning of the month. In key raw material areas, purchasing prices ranged from 140,000 to 142,000 VND/kg. This is the highest level in more than a year, showing that supply is scarce while export demand remains stable.

According to purchasing businesses, the sharp increase in pepper prices in the first week of July was mainly due to the imbalance between supply and demand. Vietnam has basically completed the harvest, so the amount of pepper left for the people is not much. Meanwhile, many large markets such as the Middle East, India, the US and Europe increased imports to prepare for year-end demand and to prevent shortages from Indonesia.

Currently, many export enterprises are temporarily suspending signing new contracts to monitor world price fluctuations and sales strategies from major producing countries. This has caused purchasing demand to stagnate, causing domestic pepper prices to remain high, with no new upward trend yet to appear.

In the short term, pepper prices are forecast to continue to fluctuate around VND140,000 - 142,000/kg, while the market awaits clearer signals from global supply. If exports from Indonesia and Brazil continue to be limited or demand from China recovers strongly, Vietnamese pepper prices may have room to increase. Conversely, if supplies from competitors are more abundant, the market will tend to adjust downward to find a more suitable price.
