According to purchasing businesses, the sharp increase in pepper prices in the first week of July was mainly determined by supply and demand factors. On the supply side, the pepper harvest in Vietnam has basically ended, causing pepper supplies to be no longer as abundant as before. Meanwhile, demand remains quite positive as many major markets such as the Middle East, India, the US and Europe continue to increase imports to meet year-end demand and stockpile amid concerns about a shortage of goods from Indonesia - a country that is also entering the final stages of the harvest season.
Many export enterprises are currently suspending signing new contracts to monitor international price developments and sales from other producing countries. This has caused purchasing power to slow down, causing domestic pepper prices to remain stable in highland areas, with no new fluctuations.
In the short term, domestic pepper prices are forecast to continue to fluctuate between VND139,000 and VND144,000 per kilogram as the market awaits clearer signals from global supply, especially the export performance of Indonesia and Brazil - two countries that can greatly influence price trends in the coming time. If supply from these countries continues to be limited or demand from China recovers strongly, Vietnamese pepper prices may have room to increase further. Conversely, if selling pressure increases from competitors, the market will adjust to establish a new, more suitable price level.

Experts advise taking advantage of the current good prices to balance finances, while closely monitoring international market fluctuations and Vietnam's export policies in the third quarter to have appropriate sales strategies.
According to a report from the Cambodian Ministry of Agriculture, in the first 5 months of 2025, Cambodia's pepper exports reached nearly 8,000 tons (7,896 tons), down 11.32% over the same period in 2024.
Mr. Mak Ny, President of the Cambodia Pepper and Spice Federation (CPSF), said that the pepper harvest season in Cambodia has not yet ended. The price of black pepper here has increased to between 25,000 and 26,500 riel per kg, higher than last year due to new orders, amid the global pepper supply shortage.
Mr. Suon Sovann, a farmer in Samlot District, Battambang Province, shared that black pepper grown and dried by farmers is now getting a better market price than last year, which makes farmers very excited. He also said that from 1 ton of fresh pepper, nearly 300 kg of black pepper can be harvested after drying. Last year, the price of black pepper was only about 16,000 riel/kg, while this year it has increased to 25,000 riel/kg – a significant increase.
According to the Cambodian Pepper Federation, in 2024, the country's pepper output will reach about 9,000 tons, down 40-50% compared to 2023. However, pepper prices have doubled, reaching about 24,000 riel/kg.
The Cambodian Ministry of Commerce also said that in 2024, Cambodia earned more than 34 million USD from pepper exports, an increase of nearly 150% compared to 2023.
Each year, Cambodia harvests about 17,000 - 20,000 tons of pepper on an area of over 6,000 hectares, of which about 80% of the output is exported to Vietnam. The next markets include China, Taiwan, Thailand, Japan, South Korea and the European Union.
