Latest pig price news
According to information from Vietnam Livestock Magazine, in the context of the fluctuating pork market and excess supply, the Chinese government has decided to tighten speculative activities of “fattening” pigs to minimize feed waste, maintain price stability and protect the interests of small-scale farmers.
In recent years, many farmers and small businesses in China have been buying adult pigs from large farms and raising them for a period of time until they gain 40 to 50 kg in weight. They hope that the price of pork will increase when they are sold, thereby creating a profit opportunity.
However, Chinese authorities have expressed concern that this speculative activity could cause instability in the pork market, with occasional shortages and surpluses leading to sharp price fluctuations.
Furthermore, “fattening” also causes great waste of animal feed, which goes against the national strategy of saving grain and reducing dependence on imports, especially in the context of trade tensions with the US.
The Chinese government is trying to stabilize pork prices, which are currently low, while curbing speculative behavior and protecting the interests of small farmers, said Pan Chenjun, an expert from Rabobank.
