The EU Deforestation Reduction Regulation (EUDR) was issued by the EU in June 2023. The regulation has set strict requirements on information transparency, traceability and commitment to zero deforestation and zero forest degradation in the agricultural product supply chain covering 7 product categories; including coffee, wood and rubber.

For the coffee industry, one of the key solutions to comply with EUDR is to build a complete, accurate and transparent forest and plantation database system.

Ms. Mara Grimminger, Assistant for International Relations, Directorate-General for the Environment, European Commission, assessed that the launch of the forest and coffee growing area database system marks an important step towards EUDR compliance in Vietnam.

"The European Union has announced its decision to postpone the implementation of the EUDR until December 2025. The extension is intended to ensure that global partners, as well as Vietnam, are fully prepared before the regulation comes into effect, facilitating a smooth and effective implementation process.

This opportunity needs to be taken advantage of to prepare, take concrete actions and effectively respond to the requirements of the EUDR, paving the way for a sustainable future for the Vietnamese coffee industry, " said Ms. Mara Grimminger.
