On August 23, Associate Professor Dr. Pham Thi Hong Nhung, Principal of the University of Foreign Languages ​​- Hue University, said that this year, the admission scores for English and Chinese pedagogy both reached the absolute level of 30 points. To ensure the quota, the school was forced to apply additional criteria in the admission process.

Previously, on the afternoon of August 22, Hue University announced the first round of admission scores for regular university admissions at its faculties and schools. Of which, the admission scores for the two majors of English and Chinese pedagogy based on the high school graduation exam scores and high school academic results must both be 30 points.

30 points if not meeting the additional criteria, cannot pass the English and Chinese pedagogy major of the University of Foreign Languages ​​- Hue University.

With the method of considering high school graduation exam scores, English pedagogy requires candidates to achieve 9.5 points or higher in foreign language and 8.5 points or higher in literature. Chinese pedagogy is even more "strict", requiring an absolute foreign language score of 10.

"There are only 6 majors nationwide that have a standard of 30 points, of which English and Chinese pedagogy at the University of Foreign Languages ​​- Hue University leads because it includes additional criteria. The reason is that the enrollment quota is only 199 for English pedagogy, 20 for Chinese pedagogy, while the competition rate is quite high. If it only stops at 30 points, the school will definitely recruit more than the quota" - Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Thi Hong Nhung explained.

The heat of foreign language pedagogy

Ms. Nhung said that the "heat" of the foreign language pedagogy sector comes from many factors. Firstly, the 2018 General Education Program has made English an optional foreign language into a main foreign language, increasing the demand for teachers. Secondly, new policies of the Ministry of Education and Training and the Government on improving income and raising salaries have motivated people to choose the teaching profession. In addition, Decree 116/2020/ND-CP giving priority to pedagogy students with tuition exemption and living allowance policies also contributes to attracting candidates.

In the English pedagogy sector, since the Politburo issued Conclusion 91-KL/TW in 2024, identifying English as the second language in schools, the need to teach and learn English has increased. As for Chinese, this is one of the 7 official foreign languages ​​of the 2018 general education program, the Ministry of Education and Training is reviewing textbooks and expanding teaching as a second foreign language.

"The above factors make parents and students constantly update information, leading to a sharp increase in the number of applications for foreign language pedagogy, especially in English and Chinese. The benchmark scores therefore reached an all-time high," Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Thi Hong Nhung emphasized.
