“Due to the recent terrorist attacks in the country that have claimed many lives, security measures are necessary to maintain law and order situation and deal with possible threats, therefore, mobile services across the country have been temporarily suspended,” the Pakistan Interior Ministry said in a post on X.
Two explosions near an election office killed at least 30 people in Pakistan’s Balochistan province on Wednesday. The Islamic State terrorist group claimed responsibility for the blasts in a message on its Telegram channel.

The country is on high alert with tens of thousands of soldiers and paramilitary personnel on duty at polling stations. Pakistan also said it would close its borders with Iran and Afghanistan on the day for security reasons.
Preliminary results of the election are expected a few hours after voting closes at 5 p.m. local time on Thursday, with clearer results likely to emerge as early as Friday.
Analysts say there is unlikely to be a clear winner in the election, so smaller political parties could play a key role in forming Pakistan's next government, which needs 169 seats in the 336-member parliament.
