The Vietnam Public Security Sports Delegation made a strong impression when winning 15 Gold Medals, 4 Silver Medals and 6 Bronze Medals at the 2025 World Police and Firefighters Games (WPFG).
From June 23 to July 7, the 2025 World Police and Fire Fighting Games (WPFG) will take place in Birmingham, Alabama (USA), bringing together thousands of athletes from more than 70 countries.
In its second participation in this sports arena, the Vietnam People's Public Security Sports Delegation made a strong impression with a total of 25 medals, including 15 Gold Medals, 4 Silver Medals and 6 Bronze Medals - an achievement far exceeding expectations.
Expanding scale, raising the level
Implementing the policy of the Ministry of Public Security on strengthening foreign affairs and international cooperation in building the People's Public Security force, including the field of physical training and sports until 2030; with the consent of General To Lam, General Secretary of the Party Central Committee, former Minister of Public Security, the Vietnamese People's Public Security Sports Athletes Delegation participated in the WPFG for the first time in 2023 in Manitoba, Canada, and excelled over 20 professional athletes from the Spanish Police, the United States... and the host country Canada, winning the historic Gold Medal in Karate for the People's Public Security Sports.
Compared to the first time participating, this year the Vietnam Public Security Sports Delegation participated in the following sports: Fire Prevention and Fighting (PCCC) and Rescue (CHCN), along with a number of sports: Swimming, Boxing, Athletics, Shooting, Jujitsu, Karate, Muster, Ladder Racing and Half Marathon.
With 44 members participating in high-performance sports and professional sports in Fire Prevention and Rescue, the delegation has been thoroughly and seriously prepared both professionally and mentally.
The reasonable allocation among the content groups, along with the selection of typical athletes of the Public Security Forces, helped the delegation have an impressive performance throughout the congress.
Breaking the Limits – Shining in the International Arena
Leading the "gold" list of the delegation is Major Hoang Linh Chi, who single-handedly brought home 4 Gold Medals in the events: 50m breaststroke, 50m backstroke, 50m butterfly and 50m freestyle. Lieutenant Colonel Tran Thi Thu Hang and Captain Tran Thi Thuy (1 Silver Medal, 1 Bronze Medal).
Shooting – the traditional strength of the Vietnam People's Public Security's sports – affirmed its position with 4 medals, including 3 Gold Medals and 1 Bronze Medal. Among them was an individual Gold Medal and a team Gold Medal by shooter Trinh Thu Vinh – a familiar face who won a ticket to the Olympics, significantly contributing to bringing Vietnam into the leading group in Asia.
In the athletics event, "speed god" - Lieutenant Ngan Ngoc Nghia continued to affirm his form with 2 Gold Medals (100m and 200m), while Lieutenant Dang Hoang Anh won a Silver Medal in the 400m distance.
Karate is also a gold mine of medals when Vietnamese athletes won 3 Gold Medals, 1 Bronze Medal, notably Nguyen Ngoc Tram (individual female kata), To Hai Nam (individual male kata) and the male kata team with 3 names: Le Xuan Hung, Nguyen The Hoang and To Hai Nam.
Not to be outdone, Jujitsu made its mark with 2 Gold Medals from Le Kien in two combat events (Gi and NoGi), while Boxing brought home 1 Gold Medal from Major Nguyen Phuong Anh, Lang Son Provincial Police.
Notably, for the first time in the history of participating in the Congress, the Fire Prevention and Rescue team excellently ranked 4th in the team, and won 2 more Silver Medals - showing the progress of the Vietnam People's Public Security sports delegation in mastering professional competitions that require specialized techniques and equipment.
The result of thorough preparation
Not just medals, this result also shows strong progress in strategic thinking, training quality as well as international competition spirit of the Vietnam People's Public Security force.
To achieve the above success, preparations were carried out very early. The athletes were carefully selected, trained systematically according to the intensive training program, coordinated between professional units and leading sports experts. At the same time, the close attention and direction from the leaders of the Ministry of Public Security, along with the active support of the Vietnam People's Public Security Sports Association, not only ensures the strategic orientation but also clearly demonstrates the progress in the process of international integration and socialization of sports activities in the force.
These are the key factors contributing to creating a strong impression of the Vietnam Public Security Sports Delegation in the international arena this year.
The journey at the 2025 World Police and Fire Games has come to an end, but the echoes still resound like an epic about the bravery, will and fighting spirit of the People's Public Security soldiers in the international arena. With 25 medals, including 15 Gold Medals, the Vietnam People's Public Security Sports Delegation not only brought glory to the Fatherland but also opened up greater expectations for the upcoming games - where Vietnam not only participates, but is also ready to affirm its leading position in the region and reach the world.
