Nguyen Viet Trinh (from Nam Dinh ) - a third-year journalism student at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Ho Chi Minh City National University) - is still busy every day at the office of an event organization company. As an intern in the customer care and business development department, Trinh said this is a valuable opportunity to practice communication skills, observe the market and learn professional working processes in the field she loves.

Learn from practice

"This job is in line with the direction I have cherished for a long time. Although I am just an intern, I am assigned many practical tasks, have the opportunity to interact and learn many things that are not available at school," Trinh shared. She also added: "The company focus on advertising and communication, so the pressure and workload are quite a lot. There are days when I come home from work exhausted, looking at my friends going out makes me feel a bit nervous, but because I like this job, it's okay."

Similarly, Truong Thi Liem (from Binh Thuan ), a student majoring in English at Saigon University, chose a part-time job as a waitress at a food store. She shared: "I want to work to earn extra money to register for 1 or 2 courses and improve my communication skills." This job helps Liem earn some living expenses to help her parents.

Meanwhile, Dieu Thuy (from Binh Thuan) - a third-year student majoring in film and television scriptwriting, Faculty of Literature, University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Ho Chi Minh City National University) - is still working hard as a film collaborator for an online newspaper.

In addition, she is also actively looking for internship opportunities at film production companies as a production assistant during the three summer months. For Thuy, this summer is not only a vacation, but also a "milestone" in her journey out of the university gate.

Nguyen The Anh (from Thanh Hoa) - a student majoring in Vietnamese Studies - also found a job by contacting the agency directly. Currently, The Anh is an intern at the Center for Literature and Linguistics - Southern Institute of Social Sciences.

Be careful when looking for a job

However, many opinions say that in the process of finding a job, students need to be careful to avoid encountering unwanted incidents.

A representative of the Business Relations and Student Employment Department at Nguyen Tat Thanh University said: "When looking for a job, students need to read the contract carefully to understand important information such as position, job, salary, working hours, insurance and related benefits.

It is important to distinguish clearly between employment contracts, probationary contracts and agreements such as internships, part-time or full-time because each type has different benefits. Absolutely do not sign a contract that is blank or missing information, and only sign when you understand all the terms."

In addition, before accepting a job, you should research the company through reliable sources to carefully avoid falling into fraud cases. If during the work process you encounter problems such as late salary, non-payment of insurance or labor exploitation, students can contact the authorities or legal consulting units for support.

Finally, keep all paperwork and agreements and be wary of jobs that require payment up front, as this is often a sign of a scam.

MSc. Tieu Minh Son - tutor of soft skills, Student Capacity Development Center, Van Lang University - said that summer is an important period for students to design valuable experiences for their learning and career development journey.

"In reality, students who spend the summer working part-time, doing internships or collaborating with professional organizations often have more confidence, initiative and self-understanding when entering the new school year.

Whether it is just an intern or a part-time employee, you will have the opportunity to be exposed to a real working environment, understand more about the industry you are pursuing and practice many vital skills such as communication, time management, teamwork, and pressure tolerance...", he commented.

Mr. Son emphasized: "It is important that you choose a job that suits your personal orientation, has clear information and ensures safety. Many people, because they are too eager to find a job, easily believe in attractive job advertisements, leading to being taken advantage of, losing money unjustly exploited.

Before accepting a job, students need to spend time learning about the company, read the terms of the agreement clearly, and absolutely do not pay any money if the reason is unclear. If you feel unsafe, you should seek advice from teachers, student support centers, or trusted sources."

Health Note

For students who choose to stay in the city to work instead of returning home for the summer, Mr. Son believes that this is an opportunity to try and learn, but also needs to pay attention to mental and physical health. Some students who work at high intensity after a stressful semester will easily get exhausted.

"I always advise students to listen to their bodies and balance work and rest. If you can't work, you can still take advantage of the summer to learn a foreign language, participate in social activities, read specialized books or take short-term skills courses. Each choice can become valuable material for maturity, as long as you have a clear goal and actively pursue it," he said.
