The Republican Party won the 2024 US election, will the Biden administration's policies "face a limit"?

With control of the 119th House of Representatives in the US Congress , along with victories in the Senate and the race for the White House, the Republican Party has concluded a winning election season.

Specifically, according to a source from the US Federal Election Commission, as of 3:00 p.m. on November 13 (Vietnam time), the Republican Party had won 219 out of 435 seats in the House of Representatives, surpassing the statutory threshold of 218 votes to become the majority in this legislative body, while the Democratic Party only had 211 votes.

The Republicans' gains come after decisive victories in Nebraska, California and Pennsylvania. Their slim majority could be strengthened when final results from California and Alaska are announced.

The Republican Party's victory in the House of Representatives capped off an unexpectedly successful election season, with its candidate, Donald Trump, winning the presidential election by a landslide with 312 electoral votes, far surpassing Democratic candidate Kamala Harris.

In addition, the AP news agency reported that the Republican Party has also secured control of the US Senate with 53 Senators. Thus, for at least the next 2 years, the Republican Party will have full control of the White House (executive branch) and both houses of the US Congress (legislative branch).

The new 119th Congressmen and Senators are scheduled to be sworn in early January 2025. President-elect Donald Trump will be sworn in on January 20, 2025.

Although the final results of the elections have yet to be officially announced, Republican lawmakers will work on the assumption that they have won control of Congress to push through House leadership elections and shape plans to reverse or overhaul much of President Joe Biden's administration's domestic and foreign policies.

According to House Speaker Mike Johnson (Republican, Louisiana congressman), Republicans in the House and Senate have the task of implementing the policies of President-elect Donald Trump.

Mr Johnson plans to spend the week at Mr Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, detailing plans to slash costs and dramatically cut environmental regulations.

Republicans say the top priority of the 119th Congress will be passing policies to secure the southern border, with "fixing the bureaucracy" a second priority for the party.

The question is how Mr. Trump will try to shape the agenda. The president-elect has been quick to make clear that he wants the Republican-led Senate to bend to his will. His allies, meanwhile, have loudly endorsed Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.) for the Senate Republican leadership, though Mr. Trump himself has not yet confirmed it.

As for Democrats, who are confident they still have a narrow window to win a majority in the House, they say they will focus on confirming as many judges as possible while they still have a majority in the Senate.
