French news agency AFP quoted Mr. Aliyev as noting that because the conditions are in place, the two sides need to actively work on the content of the document.

Speaking about the future with Armenia, the President of Azerbaijan stressed: “There will definitely not be a new war. I will do everything in my power to prevent it. Enough of war!”.

Previously, on January 8, in an interview with Public TV , Secretary of the Armenian Security Council Armen Grigoryan said that the country had responded to Baku's proposals on a peace treaty.

Grigoryan said there was "positive momentum" with the proposal, but there were still "certain issues on which we hope to make progress in the near future".

Nevertheless, both Armenia and Azerbaijan hope that in the shortest possible time the peace treaty will be completed and signed.

Relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan are strained over control of the Nagorno-Karabakh region. This region is located deep in the southwest of Azerbaijan, but has a majority of ethnic Armenians and wants to annex it.

Rising tensions between the two neighbors culminated in a war that lasted from February 1988 to May 1994. Despite a ceasefire agreement reached in 1994 and subsequent peace talks, fighting continued.

Since 2008, Azerbaijan and Armenia have held dozens of high-level meetings to resolve the issue, but have not yet found a suitable reconciliation.

In May 2022, the two countries announced the establishment of a border demarcation commission, a move that was seen as a step towards an early end to the dispute over the Nagorno-Karabakh region.
