Settling down before the storm season
This August, Ho Thi Thu (2007), residing in village 1, Phuoc Nang commune, Da Nang city (orphaned), could not hide her emotions when the government handed over a brand new house to her.
Recalling the past, she said: "The old house was just a few temporary wooden panels, the corrugated iron roof was rotten. Every rainy and windy night, the family was worried and anxious. Now that we have a spacious house with the smell of new lime, I feel like I have just entered a different life. This house not only protects me from the sun and rain, but also motivates me to study with peace of mind, and my siblings to work with peace of mind, to rise out of poverty.

That joy is also spreading in many highland villages. In Ra Lang village, Jo Ngay commune, Da Nang city, Mr. A Lang Duoc, a family in difficult circumstances, has just received a new house. He emotionally shared: "My mother is a war invalid, the whole family lives mainly on farming, the economy is unstable, life is still full of deprivation. For many years, we have only lived in a temporary house with an old thatched roof and bamboo walls, and every rainy season we are afraid of it leaking and collapsing. Today, I have a solid house, I am grateful to the Party and the State, the police force, the government and the neighbors for helping my family have a place to live."
Sharing the same joy, Mr. A Lang Ho, Pho village, Song Kon commune, said that from now on, his family will no longer be in a state of frantically looking for shelter every time a storm comes. What makes him feel warmer is that the house was built with the joint efforts of the police, union members, neighbors, etc. People who contributed hundreds of working days, putting their feelings and sharing into each brick and cart of sand.

Join hands to complete the elimination of temporary housing
Mr. Briu Ca, Deputy Chief of Police of Song Kon Commune, Da Nang City said: "To support people in building temporary and dilapidated houses before the storm season, during the implementation process, we went to each house, met and mobilized each household, listened to their thoughts and wishes to ensure that each house was built to meet the needs and living conditions of each family."
Completing a house in the mountains is very difficult, because the rugged terrain makes it extremely difficult to transport materials; the counterpart funding from the people is limited; the customs and practices of the people also affect the design of the house model. But the most valuable thing we received was the sincere affection of the people.
"Each completed house is not only a place to shelter from the sun and rain, but also a testament to the close relationship between the army and the people. We believe that with the cooperation of the government and the community, from these shelters, the lives of the people in the highlands will change more and more," said Mr. Briu Ca.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Phuong, Vice President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Da Nang City, said that as of July 18, all 12,301/12,301 houses had been completed, reaching 100% of the plan. Of which, the old Da Nang City area has 2,037 houses; the old Quang Nam province in the 2023-2025 period has 10,264 houses.
Implementing the Prime Minister's direction in Official Dispatch No. 84 and Notice No. 338/TB-VPCP dated July 1, 2025, Da Nang City has basically completed the work of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses.
Not only taking care of the people in the city, Da Nang also allocated 71 billion VND from the budget to support Hau Giang province to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses; the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Da Nang City allocated the Temporary and Dilapidated House Elimination Fund to support the construction of 10 new houses for poor and near-poor households in Ea Le commune, Ea Sup district, Dak Lak province with a total cost of 600 million VND.
"The program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses is not only a social security policy, but also a profound humane message: no one is left behind. This is the way to realize the dream of settling down for the poor, families with preferential policies and those in difficult circumstances, especially people in border areas," Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Phuong emphasized.
