Like a “cloud vine across the sky”, Cu Vai village (Hanh Phuc commune, Lao Cai province) is hidden at an altitude of 1,300 m above sea level, where mist swirls and clouds cover the roof every dawn.

The name Cu Vai in Thai means “clouds across the sky” - an extremely evocative image when looking at the village from above. A row of old rammed earth houses with simple corrugated iron roofs stretches across the mountainside, surrounded by a green valley, with the Hoang Lien mountain range undulating in the distance. Fog covers a thin veil, and when the sunlight shines through, the whole village awakens with wild flowers blooming and birdsong.
Cu Vai village has more than 40 households, of which 80% are Mong, the rest are Thai and Kinh ethnic groups moved from villages around the mountainside.
On normal days, villagers rush to the fields from dawn, leaving only children and the elderly at home to tend the fire. When night falls, the flickering lights from each kitchen, the warm straw smoke clearly shows the silhouettes of people sitting around a late dinner, everyday stories mixed with cheerful laughter.

The climate in Cu Vai is typical of the highlands, cool all year round, close to the misty humidity every morning. Winter (from December to early spring) is the most ideal "sea of clouds season", the fog covers the path, visitors only need to go to the beginning or end of the village to be able to see the whole sea of floating clouds. At the same time, peach and plum blossoms are in full bloom, the road to the village is rarely poetic.
In the summer, from April to June, the mountain showers help the trees to be lush and green. In July, when the first plums of the season ripen right in front of every house, the fragrance makes visitors not want to leave.
By October, the yellow leaves fall, the space of Cu Vai village is dyed in a deep color, suitable for those looking for peace, away from the noise of the city.
The journey to Cu Vai has become easier because it is mainly a concrete road. The wild natural scenery along the way makes anyone willing to overcome the last slope to set foot on the "land of white clouds". Accommodation services in the village are still very modest, with a few household running homestays, with a scale of about 3 - 5 simple wooden rooms.
If you are a backpacker or like camping, just bring a tent, ask the homeowner for permission to borrow a large corner of the yard and you can set up camp right on the porch, sleep under the starry canopy, and breathe fresh air.
With its wild beauty and open space, Cu Vai is gradually becoming the “capital” for souls who long to return to their natural roots. Although the 3G and 4G signals are unstable and the electricity is just enough, the simplicity and sincerity of the residents here will make you forget all your daily worries.

A trip to Cu Vai is not only a journey to conquer heights, but also a journey to "escape the busy world " to find peace, to wake up every morning next to the fragrant smoke from the kitchen, watch the clouds drifting slowly beneath your feet, and listen to the mountains and forests whispering stories of heaven and earth.
Come once to Cu Vai - the village in the clouds of Hanh Phuc commune, to feel the breath of nature, to know that happiness is sometimes just a fire, a rustic smile and quiet moments among the floating sea of clouds.
