Senate President Dato Awang Bemee Awang Ali Basah expressed his deep condolences on the passing of formerPresident Tran Duc Luong on 20/5/2025.
Appreciating the official visit to Malaysia by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, President of the Malaysian Senate Dato Awang Bemee Awang Ali Basah emphasized that Vietnam is Malaysia’s only comprehensive strategic partner in Asia; saying that the visit is an opportunity for the two countries to promote the practical and effective implementation of cooperation agreements within the framework of the newly upgraded partnership.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh congratulated Malaysia on its achievements in recent years, especially in economic development, including the positive contributions of the Malaysian Senate.
The Prime Minister expressed his delight at the strong development of bilateral relations, especially the upgrading of relations to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during General Secretary To Lam's official visit to Malaysia in November 2024; affirmed that Vietnam attaches great importance to promoting bilateral relations with Malaysia, and the Vietnamese Government and National Assembly are ready to create all favorable conditions for cooperation between the two countries.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh suggested that the two sides should coordinate to strongly implement measures to soon bring bilateral trade turnover to 20 billion USD in a balanced direction; facilitate import and export and limit the application of trade barriers; Malaysia supports training for Vietnamese localities and enterprises on production processes and granting Halal certification; further facilitate the import of these items from Vietnam; strive to soon sign a cooperation agreement in the Halal field in the near future.

The two sides agreed to continue promoting the exchange of delegations at all levels, effectively implementing existing cooperation mechanisms and agreements, contributing to strengthening strategic trust between the two countries; at the same time, promptly completing negotiations and signing important agreements and agreements on defense, security, maritime cooperation, education, etc., creating the foundation and framework for deeper cooperation between the two countries.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh also hopes that the two ruling parties will continue to exchange experiences to jointly lead the country's development; the two countries' National Assemblies will increase experience sharing and learn from each other in the fields of law, supreme supervision and important issues of the country.
The two sides agreed to encourage the opening of more flights connecting famous destinations between the two countries, contributing to promoting trade and tourism; creating favorable conditions for citizens of one country to live, work and study in the other; and supporting the active role of the Vietnamese community in Malaysia and the Malaysian community in Vietnam in strengthening solidarity between the people of the two countries.
The Prime Minister highly appreciated Malaysia's role in assuming the ASEAN Chairmanship in 2025 with the theme "Sustainability and Inclusion" and the AIPA 46 Chairmanship. The Prime Minister said that in the context of the current complicated and unpredictable world situation, the two countries need to demonstrate the spirit of solidarity and unity to enhance the role, prestige, and handle ASEAN issues; affirmed that Vietnam will closely coordinate with Malaysia and other countries to implement the set priorities, towards a united, self-reliant ASEAN playing a central role; hoped that Malaysia will have many initiatives and make practical and effective contributions to the common development of ASEAN and AIPA.
On this occasion, the Prime Minister conveyed the invitation of National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man to the President of the Malaysian Senate to soon pay an official visit to Vietnam.
