The first train from Bangkok to Vientiane

On the morning of July 20, an international passenger train traveling from Thep Aphiwat station in Bangkok (Thailand) arrived at Khamsavath station in Vientiane (Laos).

This is the first passenger train connecting the two capitals, aiming to promote tourism and connect infrastructure.

At exactly 9:35, the international passenger train arrived in the capital Vientiane. Now, the movement of Lao and Thai people as well as tourists has become more convenient and easier.

As one of the first people to get off the train, Ms. Pimkhae Kheakhwao, a tourist from Thailand, said she was very happy to travel to Laos by train, on the first trip.

She found it very convenient because the train left Bangkok in the evening and arrived in Laos in the morning.

Standing in a long queue waiting to check in to enter Laos, Thai tourist Watchara Pechdin said he was happy to be able to travel to Laos by train. From now on, traveling to Laos will be easier.

This is one of the cooperation projects between the two governments of Laos and Thailand to facilitate travel and transportation activities to promote trade, investment, tourism as well as take advantage of the important strategic position of the two countries in the Mekong sub-region and Southeast Asia in connecting infrastructure along the East-West and North-South economic corridors.

Mr. Daochinda Sihalath, General Director of Lao National Railway Company, said that this was the first Bangkok-Vientiane passenger train, with a large number of passengers, 500 passengers, exceeding the company's previous target of 200 passengers.

This shows that the people of Laos and Thailand and tourists are very interested. The fact that many international tourists come to Laos will help promote the country's economic development, especially in 2024, which is Visit Laos Year, with the goal of attracting more international tourists.

Recently, the number of foreign tourists coming to Laos has been increasing. The capital Vientiane is an attractive tourist destination and also a convenient transit point to other attractions in Laos.

The official opening of the train connecting the two capitals of Laos and Thailand not only gives tourists another option when traveling but also contributes to promoting traffic connections between Laos and Thailand.
