Join hands for the poor's shelter

This year's storm season, 34 families of meritorious people and poor households in Dong Luong commune no longer have to worry because their dilapidated houses have been supported to be repaired and rebuilt in a timely manner, ensuring the progress of the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses by 2025.

In the newly completed solid house still smelling of paint, the elderly couple Thieu Manh Trong and Vi Thi Lich could not hide their emotions. Mr. Trong was born in 1936, the son of a martyr; his wife was born in 1940. “My wife and I have 7 children, 6 of whom have started their own families and live separately. Life is hard, just enough to eat and wear. My wife and I are currently living with our youngest son, born in 1986, but he is slow and stupid for his age. My wife has a particularly severe disability and is a social welfare beneficiary,” said Mr. Trong.

Join hands for the poor's shelter

The new house of Mr. Thieu Manh Trong's family in Don Ngua area, Dong Luong commune was completed with support from the State and contributions from organizations and individuals inside and outside the province.

Mr. Trong's family's level 4 house was built 40 years ago and has seriously deteriorated. Every time it rains heavily, the water floods up to the bed. Many times, commune officials have come down to persuade the family to build a new house, but because the grandparents are old, often sick, and have expensive medical expenses, they do not have the resources to do it, even though the State has supported them. Fearing that the old house would deteriorate and could not withstand heavy rains and strong winds, the commune called on benefactors to help Mr. Trong's family. Accordingly, the "Building a house for charity" project of Dan Tri Newspaper mobilized benefactors to support nearly 350 million VND, plus 60 million VND in support from the State under the temporary house removal program, more than 110 million VND from both families and organizations, individuals, and businesses in the province. In just over 2 months, the solid house of his family was completed. On the day the house was handed over, not only Mr. Trong's family was happy but the neighbors were also happy for him and his wife.

Mr. Thieu Manh Trong emotionally shared: “In my whole life, I never thought that one day my family would live in such a big, solid house. Before, the house was dilapidated, it got wet when it rained, and our son was weak and silly, so we were very worried. Now that we have a new house, we feel very secure! Thank you to the government, philanthropists and relatives for your help.”

Implementing the policy of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses, in 2025, Dong Luong commune has synchronously deployed many solutions, mobilizing both state resources and support from social organizations, clans, and communities. To date, the commune has completed 34 houses (14 houses for meritorious people, 20 houses for poor households), reaching 100% of the 2025 target, of which 11 new houses were built and 23 houses were repaired.

Not only stopping at budget support, Dong Luong commune has mobilized many resources to help the poor eliminate temporary houses from charity funds, the cooperation of clans, villages and the participation of the entire political system. Thereby, the program to eliminate temporary houses and dilapidated houses has truly become a movement to spread the spirit of "the rich help the poor".

The completion of the target of eliminating 34 temporary and dilapidated houses in 2025 is an important step forward in improving the quality of life of Dong Luong residents. The new houses not only ensure safety for poor households but also contribute to changing the face of the countryside, creating a civilized, prosperous and happy living environment.

Mr. Vu Manh Cuong - Vice Chairman of Dong Luong Commune People's Committee said: The policy of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses is also the foundation for Dong Luong to continue to perfect the criteria for building new rural areas. Each shelter built is a vivid demonstration of the spirit of solidarity and sharing, while affirming the deep concern of the Party and State for the people.

The success in eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses is not only for immediate social security purposes, but also a driving force for Dong Luong to strive to become a new rural commune in the near future. Today's solid and spacious houses are the solid foundation for a sustainable future, where people can live in better conditions, together building an increasingly rich and civilized homeland.
