During the sea parade celebrating the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day, September 2, the Vietnam People's Navy demonstrated its strength at sea, contributing to firmly protecting the sea and islands of the Fatherland. This is also a vivid demonstration of the strategic vision of the Party, the State and the Central Military Commission in the cause of protecting the Fatherland's sovereignty early and from afar.

In the fleet of ships participating in the sea parade, the most prominent is the Kilo 636 submarine. This is a type of submarine with high combat performance, low noise, and the ability to detect enemies from a distance. The ship has the latest inertial navigation system, modern computer and automatic information systems, and is equipped with a powerful missile and torpedo system for fast combat.

Kilo is covered with 2 layers of thick and hard steel shell. The ship has 6 separate compartments to improve anti-sinking ability and high safety when 1 or 2 compartments are punctured. Command, control and fire protection systems are located in the main control room, separate from the remaining compartments.

The ship is 73.8 m long, 9.9 m wide, with a crew of 57. Underwater, the Kilo moves at a speed of 20 knots, equivalent to 37 km/h, operating at an average depth of 240 m. It can dive to a maximum depth of 300 m.

Kilo submarines run on diesel-electric engines. Thanks to the main electric engine with a capacity of 5,500 horsepower, the submarine's operating range reaches nearly 10,000 km, and it can dive continuously for 700 km. In addition, Kilo is also equipped with 2 reserve electric engines, each with 102 horsepower, used in case of having to turn around in narrow crevices or ditches, or when leaving the dock; it can operate in independent mode for 45 consecutive days.

In addition, the Kilo ship also has hydrofoils to absorb and refract the reflected signals of sound waves, minimizing noise and increasing the ship's stealth ability.

The most powerful deterrent force of the Vietnam People's Navy

Regarding the weapon system, Kilo is equipped with 6 533mm torpedo launchers right at the bow. Of which, there are 2 wave-controlled launch tubes designed with the latest technology, with almost absolute accuracy when conquering the target. In addition, this "invisible killer" also has specialized equipment to contain 18 torpedoes (including 12 wave-controlled ones) or 24 mines.

Kilo is also equipped with an automatic control system that allows for rapid torpedo loading, significantly reducing the time it takes to gain the upper hand in combat. This system can be controlled remotely, or directly from the command post.

In case of need, instead of torpedoes, Kilo will be equipped with anti-ship missiles. The advantage is that this type of missile can use torpedo launchers for combat. In addition, Kilo also has 4 PZRK “Strela-3” missiles, specialized for shooting down enemy aircraft.

Thanks to its modern, multi-purpose weapons and equipment system, Kilo is known as a multi-purpose submarine, capable of operating in many areas at the same time.

With the above capabilities, Kilo 636 becomes the most powerful deterrent force of the Vietnam People's Navy.

In the proud eyes of millions of people watching the parade, the image of Kilo 636 surfing proudly in the middle of the ocean became a symbol of Vietnam's strength and will: Ready to protect the peace , independence and freedom of the nation.

Implementing the policy of the Party Central Committee and the Central Military Commission, in December 2009, Vietnam signed a contract with the Russian Federation to purchase 6 Kilo 636 submarines, a training process for sailors, equipment and supplies to ensure the submarines.

The 6 Kilo submarines that Russia built under Vietnam's order are equipped with many modern weapons and are known as "black holes" in the ocean.

Implementing the decision of the Ministry of National Defense , on May 29, 2013, at Cam Ranh Military Base (Khanh Hoa), the Navy held a ceremony to announce the decision to establish Submarine Brigade 189 and receive the Victory Flag.

On January 3, 2014, at Cam Ranh Military Port, amid the joyful anticipation of the people of the whole country, Brigade 189 received the first Kilo 636 submarine named 182 - Hanoi; on March 22, 2014, received submarine 183 - Ho Chi Minh City.

On the morning of April 3, 2014, at Cam Ranh Military Port, the Navy solemnly held a national flag-raising ceremony for two submarines 182 - Hanoi and 183 - Ho Chi Minh City.

On August 1, 2015, at Cam Ranh Military Port, the Navy held a flag-raising ceremony for submarine 184 - Hai Phong and submarine 185 - Khanh Hoa.

On February 5, 2016, Brigade 189 welcomed submarine 186 - Da Nang; on January 23, 2017, received submarine 187 - Ba Ria - Vung Tau. On February 28, 2017, the Navy solemnly held a national flag-raising ceremony for 2 submarines, an event that attracted great attention from the people of the whole country and international friends.
