Staying up all night to wait for the "most memorable performance of her life": singing along to the song Tien Quan Ca and the Declaration of Independence at Ba Dinh Square on the morning of September 2, My Tam excitedly gave Thanh Nien an emotional talk.
"Stand in a wide place to see the height"
With only 8 verses, My Tam's "record-breaking short" performance immediately went viral on social networks when it was performed at the parade to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, September 2, where millions of hearts were beating together at the sacred moment of the entire nation. After the familiar opening lines of the song Tien Quan Ca sung by the innocent voice of a child: " The Vietnamese army marches together to save the country...", My Tam's clear, calm, and warm voice was sung with the passionate and simple lyrics of musician Pham Hong Bien in the song Giai Melody Tu Hao : "That song resonates in my heart/That song makes me incredibly strong/That song makes me tear up/When standing under the red flag with a yellow star/That song I hear today/Is the wonderful and sacred thing of the entire nation/Together with millions of people singing the song/Our Vietnamese country, forever...".

My Tam, with a voice that has lasted for more than 20 years, with her "ageless beauty" in a pure ao dai, simple high-tied hair, calm demeanor , resolute face, bright eyes of trust and a clear, soaring voice, has become a beautiful symbol of music when accompanying a historical moment and a beautiful moment in the singing career of the "time keeper".
My Tam "speaks her heart, with all the most sincere sincerity"
I remember, in a conversation not long ago on Thanh Nien, you once said: "You can see a lot from up high". And today, is it the opposite feeling, standing in the middle of the vast stage that is Ba Dinh Square?
- Exactly the opposite feeling: Standing in a wide open space, to see the height. The height of the ideal. And the ideal is not far away, but right before your eyes. It is the sacred image of Uncle Ho's mausoleum, which has become a symbol of the "sacred soul" of the nation. That is where Tam first visited Uncle Ho's mausoleum in 1998, and every time he performed in Hanoi , Tam often passed by but could not think that he would sing in front of Uncle Ho's mausoleum, in the middle of the historic Ba Dinh Square, and at the sacred moment of the entire nation. That was the moment when Tam thought that the ideal of life that Tam had been quietly pursuing for so long had perhaps merged with the common ideal of the nation, when the highest leaders of the country were present at the flagpole and the people from all over the streets were listening to the echoes of history.
What is the most special feeling?
-,Everyone stood in line from 2-3am, staying up almost all night waiting for the moment to walk through the flagpole. Near dawn, the weather was still very gloomy, but close to the opening time, especially when we were able to walk into the flagpole, the sky suddenly cleared up, it was truly magical!
"Right before the opening, the sun suddenly cleared up, it was magical!", My Tam said.

The shortest performance, perhaps the shortest in Tam's singing career so far, but definitely the most emotional performance of Tam's ever; the most beautiful, most sacred memory of an artist's life. But no, Tam thinks this morning's performance cannot be compared to any of her shows because it was not a show, and Tam stood there, not as an artist but as a child of the country. Tam thinks she is very lucky. Thank you Hanoi for giving that opportunity to My Tam!
The shortest performance, with a "child" co-star with an innocent childish voice, and right after that, Uncle Ho read the Declaration of Independence, how did you "balance" your voice to fit the space it belonged to?
- Tam really didn't think she was singing, but simply, she was expressing her heart, with all the most sincere sincerity. This was a performance that Tam almost knew in advance that she would be extremely emotional. Although during practice, Tam had been moved to tears many times, but at that sacred moment, Tam was truly moved to tears. Usually My Tam rarely cries, but this was a rare time when Tam couldn't hold back her emotions.
I really admire the skillful and delicate arrangement of the music director when he created such an emotional and meaningful combination. Two voices: one representing the young generation of the country, one representing the adult generation, and then the resounding voice of Uncle Ho reading the Declaration of Independence . At the same time, the present - past - future co-exist, harmonize, connect, creating an unforgettable moment.

Previously, on the evening of September 1, in the program 80 years of the journey of Independence - Freedom - Happiness, My Tam also appeared simply with her hair tied up, lightly made up, bare nails... in a place where she had every reason to stand out?
- Tam thinks what she did was right. In a formal ceremony, neat clothes and hair are appropriate. Nails definitely cannot be painted red, so how can that be okay! Tam doesn't try to stand out, nor does she try to blend in with the crowd, because Tam always believes that each person will have their own style to know what is appropriate and suitable for where they are standing. Luckily for Tam, she got beautiful pictures at the time she needed to be most beautiful to be worthy of that beautiful moment.
"From now on, Tam must live a normal life"
Normally, we can easily say words of love to the person we love, but when it comes to patriotism, we seem to hesitate for fear of being accused of "shouting slogans". Self-identifying as a "patriotic group", have you ever felt that hesitation?
- Never. Why should I be shy about talking about patriotism? Because if I don't love my country, I can't live! After more than 20 years of working, I have had to build my own ideals to live well every day and improve myself. In that ideal, and the way Tam loves herself, there is also the baggage of patriotism.
For Tam, A50 and A80, military parades or "national concerts" are not occasions for "drums and flags to be raised" but above all, they are mirrors for today's youth to look into and know where they are living and where they belong. Once they know where they stand and where they belong, love will naturally and sincerely emerge, simple and close.
Having titled your self-portrait documentary "Timekeeper", what do you think this morning's moment will help you keep before time?
- That moment, it will definitely be "timeless"! But Tam doesn't think I will keep it deep in my memory to only take it out once in a while. On the contrary, Tam will always carry it with me, look at it every day to practice gratitude. Gratitude to the country. Ideals to Tam are not an "occasion", they are daily luggage.

If it's not the big question: "... but what have we done for the Fatherland today" - like the song "Aspiration of Youth" you just sang on the night of September 1, then what is the question you ask yourself every day?
- Is my life meaningful or not, is there anything wrong... Because doing wrong is easy, living right is...!
While many artists choose this time to release songs that are provocative, proud, and praise the country..., why did My Tam release the MV "The Wind Blows on the Roof" to mourn a Central region with sad rain and fierce storms?
- Actually, that song is in DTAP's debut album Made in Vietnam , which was just released, but coincidentally came to the audience at the right time when Tam's hometown, Central Vietnam, was hit by a storm, which must have been a comforting word. In the "patriotic bloc", many young people have done very well with the word "love", as My Tam has done for over 20 years, now let My Tam choose another word. In the word "love" there is always the word "love", Tam thinks so!
"The mind is calm because the mind loves to give..."

Working hard and quietly for charity, that's how you conjugate the verb "patriotic" in My Tam's style. Does your usual calm demeanor come from that?
- Probably so! Tam is calm because Tam really likes to give, and Tam is happy about that. I'm not good at speaking, if Tam goes on stage to speak, my audience will be "frozen", because Tam usually only speaks based on emotions, and after many years, she is still clumsy. But Tam thinks she can do it, thanks to the positive energy that My Tam always patiently accumulates and learns every day.
If there are indeed moments that are enough to make it impossible for us to live normally again, do you think, for you, that moment was this morning?
- On the contrary, from now on, Tam feels that he has to live more normally, and should not overdo it. Only by being normal can he calmly feel the happiness he has, which is living among these people, this country, these days...
"That moment, it will definitely be "timeless"! But I don't think I will keep it deep in my memory to only take it out once in a while. On the contrary, Tam will always carry it with me, looking at it every day to practice gratitude. Gratitude to the country. Ideals to Tam are not an "occasion", they are daily luggage" (My Tam)
