Among modern equipment, the appearance of 2 DHC-6 seaplanes attracts attention. According to published information, the first DHC-6 seaplane was equipped and assigned to the Vietnam People's Navy Air Force on October 29, 2013 at Cam Ranh airport ( Khanh Hoa ).
The first DHC-6 seaplane has the registration number VNT-777 VIP, manufactured by Viking Company (Canada). The aircraft has a maximum weight of 5,670 kg, can carry 19 people, and has an actual ceiling of 7,431 m. The maximum clock speed at an altitude of 2,000 m is 307 km/h and the maximum flight time is 6 hours and 51 minutes.
The DHC-6 features a high-wing design, side floats and durable landing gear, allowing stable operation in a variety of harsh conditions. Equipped with two PT6A-34 turboprop engines, this seaplane ensures high safety and reliability, even in combat and supply operations in hard-to-reach areas.

The ability to take off and land directly on water is an outstanding strength, helping the DHC-6 deploy to small islands without runways. This enhances mobility, independent combat effectiveness and supports the construction and protection of defense works on outpost islands.
In addition, with stable cruising speed, high flight ceiling and long operating time, DHC-6 can maintain wide-area surveillance capability, from the mainland to the farthest points. This is a strategic advantage in protecting sovereignty , patrolling maritime security, as well as performing humanitarian and emergency rescue missions.
The DHC-6 is not only a tactical seaplane, but also a testament to the vision of modernizing the Vietnam Naval Air Force.
