Special features of the army's 'iron fist' T-90S tank participating in the A80 parade

The 'iron fist' of the Vietnam People's Army - the T-90S tank possesses explosive reactive armor, strong firepower, especially the ability to fire missiles through the gun barrel..., attracting the attention of people at the National Achievement Exhibition and A80 parade.

The T-90 tank (T-90S/SK version) is the most modern vehicle of the Armored Corps, currently on display at the National Achievements Exhibition. The "Iron Fist" of the Vietnam People's Army is also a weapon participating in the parade to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day, September 2 (A80).

According to information from officers at the display area, the army is equipped with two variants of the T-90 tank, including the T-90S and the Russian-made T-90SK command vehicle version.

The T-90S has a crew of 3, weighs 46.5 tons, is 9.67 m long, 3.78 m wide, and 2.86 m high. The vehicle has a planetary mechanical transmission system, a transmission with 2 gearboxes, 2 side reducers; uses a B-92C2 turbocharged diesel engine, uses multiple fuels, and has a maximum speed of 60 km/h (during Army Game training, the vehicle's speed can reach approximately 80 km/h); fuel range on asphalt roads is 550 km, on dirt roads is 520 km; can overcome obstacles, climb steep slopes of 30 degrees, slopes of 25 degrees, cross trenches 2.6 - 2.8 m wide, and climb vertical walls of 0.85 m; wade underground at a depth of 5 m, 1,000 m wide.

In terms of firepower, the T-90S is equipped with a 125 mm smoothbore gun, loaded automatically or manually, with 42 rounds of ammunition, firing at a rate of 8 rounds/minute; the types of artillery ammunition equipped on the vehicle are high-speed armor-piercing shells, armor-piercing shells, explosive shells, especially guided missiles fired through the gun barrel; the vehicle is also equipped with a 7.62 mm machine gun, a 12.7 mm anti-aircraft machine gun; the vehicle's fire control system is supported through the gunner's and commander's sight, ballistic computer, missile control system, and automatic target tracking device.

Regarding the defense system, the vehicle is equipped with an optical-electronic suppression system, grenade launchers, smoke grenades (active defense system); explosive reactive armor (passive defense system). Notably, the T-90S has a system to protect against weapons of mass destruction, a fire extinguishing system and a smokescreen.

According to the officer, the most special feature of the T90S tank is that it can fire missiles through the gun barrel with efficiency and hit probability at a distance of 5 km.

These equipments help T-90S affirm the position and superior strength of the heroic Vietnamese Armored Force.

The T-90S/SK tank is the export version of the T-90 tank, which has been produced by Russia since 1992.

In Vietnam, this tank was first revealed in December 2019, at the Military-Political Conference of the entire army organized by the Central Military Commission ( Ministry of National Defense ).
