Mr. Kenichi Kato (53 years old) is a veteran employee, he has worked at Tohoku Zoo for the past 27 years. Mr. Kato was attacked and killed by a lion in the zoo while feeding the lion. Although he was quickly taken to the emergency room, because of the severity of his injuries, the doctors were unable to save Mr. Kato. The incident happened last Thursday afternoon.

A zoo representative told the media: "Mr. Kenichi Kato was on duty feeding the lions, a dangerous mistake happened while he was on duty. According to the procedure, we would open the cage door, put the food in the right place. When we finished, we would quickly lock the cage door. But when the tragedy happened, this door was open."

Thus, when the lion saw the door separating it from Mr. Kenichi Kato was open, the lion immediately attacked Mr. Kato, causing serious injuries to the unfortunate man. At Tohoku Zoo, Mr. Kato was in charge of bringing food to the dangerous animals raised here, such as lions, tigers, bears...

After the incident, the zoo representative apologized to the deceased and his relatives. The zoo admitted their negligence and affirmed: "We consider this incident very serious. We will work again to find optimal solutions to prevent similar incidents from happening."
