The 2025 Danang Asian Film Festival is one of the important international film events held in Vietnam, gathering many artists, producers, directors and film lovers from all over the region.
Not only is it a place to honor the seventh art, the film festival also leaves a strong impression on locals and visitors when it organizes outdoor film screenings - a unique highlight with a strong community character.
Different from the solemn atmosphere of cinemas or indoor screening rooms, the cinema stage is now expanded to parks, beaches and squares... where audiences can immerse themselves in nature and enjoy movies in a completely new space. This activity not only enriches the cinematic experience but also contributes to spreading culture to the public, bringing art closer to daily life.
Attract viewers
From Pham Van Dong beach to Bach Dang walking street, the locations chosen for outdoor film screenings are all iconic spaces of Da Nang city. The combination of cinematic lighting with the sound of waves, cool breezes and open spaces makes viewers feel like they are entering a cultural and artistic party in the middle of nature.
The organizers have selected films that are suitable for outdoor spaces and diverse audiences, from a series of Korean animated films for children, the film "Kaleidoscope: Catching a Ghost" for Gen Z and the famous work "Dong Loc Intersection" that has left many emotions in the hearts of viewers. The interweaving of Vietnamese and international cinema helps audiences enjoy art while broadening their understanding of cultures.
The atmosphere at the screenings was as vibrant as that of street festivals. The image of hundreds of spectators sitting on the beach enjoying the film together created a lively, communal picture.
As a veteran, Mr. Nguyen Van Luan, Da Nang city, shared that the Da Nang Asian Film Festival bringing films to the public like this is very good and very meaningful. Everyone watching is very excited and when the organizers choose to show war films like this, it helps young people and tourists learn about Vietnamese history and not forget the sacrifices and difficulties of their ancestors in the past.
Many people and tourists come to the outdoor cinema area early to choose the best seats.
For Mr. Hoang Ky Anh Ton, a tourist from Hanoi, outdoor film screenings like this should continue to be carried out at famous tourist destinations in Da Nang city as well as other provinces and cities to both create more tourism products and spread cultural products to the public more easily.
Deep into the hearts of the people
The screenings are ticketless, barrier-free, and open to all. Locals and visitors feel they are not just observers but the subjects of the festival, immersed in a vibrant and emotional cultural space.
The act of grandparents, parents and children experiencing cinema together in an open space becomes a symbol of family bonding, reminiscent of the old days of mobile cinema but with a more modern look.
Mr. Ngo Khac Khoa took his family to Pham Van Dong beach very early, partly to choose the best seats and to recall the old memories of his father taking him to the movies, and partly because he wanted his children to see the movie "Dong Loc Intersection," a meaningful movie about the silent sacrifices of the youth volunteer force in the past.
The outdoor space helps bridge the gap between art and life. People who have never been to a movie theater before now have easy, barrier-free access to cinema. For many, it is the first time they have seen a full-length film in theaters - but not in a theater.
Ms. Ngo Thi Nhuan, a tourist from Ninh Binh province, said: "This is the first time I have watched a movie on such a big screen, and I also get to watch it next to the Han River, so it's very cool."
Outdoor cinema screenings have become a highlight of city exploration. International visitors also enjoy the combination of visual experiences and local scenery.
Elon Johnson, an American tourist, shared: “I love the sea and being able to enjoy a Vietnamese film right on the beach like this gives me a very special feeling, I really like it. This film also helps me understand the history of Vietnam and the image of the young female volunteers is so beautiful even during the war.”
American tourists enjoy watching outdoor movies while learning about Vietnam's history.
From the movie screenings under the stars, it can be seen that cinema does not only exist in closed spaces but can blend into daily life, touching the emotions of each person.
The 2025 Danang Asian Film Festival has been opening up a creative approach to art, bringing cinema closer to the community in the most simple and humane way.
This is not only an opportunity to honor outstanding works but also a cultural bridge between the people and international friends, between the young generation and old memories, between art and life. A dynamic, modern but also very ordinary Da Nang is clearly shown through each outdoor projection frame - an unforgettable mark in the hearts of audiences and tourists from all over the world./.
