Coach Kim Sang-sik has finished researching U.23 Vietnam.
Vietnam U.23 has completed two important rehearsals before the Southeast Asian U.23 tournament, when defeating Taiwan U.23 with scores of 5-0 and 2-1 respectively.
These were all easy victories against underdogs. Although the results did not mean much, coach Kim Sang-sik had the opportunity to test most of the personnel he had at his disposal.

The 9-day continuous training period also helped coach Kim grasp the level of his students' abilities. The research phase is over. It is expected that the Korean coach will eliminate 10 faces to shorten the list from 36 to 26. The next phase (from July 5 to July 14) will include stabilizing the squad, practicing tactics, and researching opponents to prepare for the journey to defend the throne.
In the near future, the identities of the 10 players who will say goodbye to the team will be announced. It is expected that each position (except goalkeeper) will have 2 players leaving U.23 Vietnam.
Who is at risk?
In goal, coach Kim Sang-sik is almost certain to name Tran Trung Kien (HAGL) and Cao Van Binh (SLNA). Trung Kien has played 24 matches in the V-League this season and is the most experienced goalkeeper of U.23 Vietnam. Van Binh rarely plays for his club, but has experience with U.20 Vietnam before.
One of the two goalkeepers, Nguyen Ba ( Ba Ria - Vung Tau ) and Pham Dinh Hai (Hanoi), will leave the team. Both will have difficulty competing for a starting position and need more time to accumulate.
In the central defense, experience will be the top priority for coach Kim Sang-sik. The group of players including Pham Ly Duc, Nguyen Nhat Minh, Nguyen Duc Anh (with experience of playing more than 5 matches in V-League this season) and Nguyen Hieu Minh (best young player in the first division last season) are dominating.
More inexperienced defenders like Vo Anh Quan (Ninh Binh), Dinh Quang Kiet (HAGL), Le Van Ha (Hanoi) and Dang Tuan Phong (The Cong Viettel ) had to work very hard to stay.
On the two flanks, the left wing already has Nguyen Bao Long and Khuat Van Khang, while the right wing is a competition between Nguyen Phi Hoang, Ho Van Cuong and Nguyen Hong Phuc. It is very likely that another right winger will leave the team.
The midfield is the area that gives coach Kim Sang-sik the biggest headache, as there are many central midfielders and attacking midfielders competing. In recent days, Mr. Kim has arranged a 3-5-2 formation, in which 3 midfielders will play across the field to increase control in the midfield.

Midfielders with experience such as Nguyen Van Truong, Nguyen Thai Son (who played for the national team), along with prominent faces in the V-League this season such as Le Van Thuan (2 goals in 16 matches for Thanh Hoa, won the best young player award in the V-League), Viktor Le (3 goals in 24 matches for Ha Tinh ) and Dinh Xuan Tien (1 goal in 19 matches) for SLNA... are sure to secure a place in the U.23 Southeast Asia.
"Strange" and inexperienced faces like Nguyen Thanh Dat (The Cong Viettel), Nguyen Xuan Bac (PVF-CAND), Pham Minh Phuc (CAHN Club) or Nguyen Quang Vinh (SLNA) will find it difficult to stay until the end.
As for the strikers, Nguyen Quoc Viet is likely to play the main role as he has scored regularly in the past matches. Along with Quoc Viet, Nguyen Dinh Bac and Nguyen Thanh Nhan are also "on the verge" of being selected thanks to their versatility and time spent playing for the national team.
Bui Alex is not easy to stay

The competition mainly takes place between new faces such as Bui Alex, Nguyen Ngoc My, Le Dinh Long Vu, Nguyen Le Phat and Nguyen Dang Duong.
Overseas Vietnamese Bui Alex must try harder to be selected by Coach Kim, in the context of his not-so-outstanding performance. Nguyen Le Phat, despite his potential, at the age of 18, the "seed" of PVF will have difficulty staying on the shortlist.
