Previously, defendant Thao was accused by many members of taking advantage of his position as a hui owner to appropriate money. According to the investigation results, from February 2022 to April 2023, defendant Thao opened many monthly and weekly hui chains, calling on members in many localities of Thoi Binh district to participate.
By August 2023, Ms. Thao had stopped the hui chains but still owed money to many members. During the process of organizing the hui chains, defendant Thao took advantage of the trust and absence of members when opening the hui, many times arbitrarily using the names of absent members to cast lots to collect the hui.
After that, the defendant Thao collected the money from the members but did not give it to the person who collected it but kept it for herself. According to the initial investigation, Ms. Thao defrauded and appropriated a total of nearly 300 million VND from the above acts.
Currently, the Investigation Police Agency of Thoi Binh District is continuing to investigate and clarify the case of the hui owner defrauding and appropriating nearly 300 million VND.
